Bert's advice works well. As n4gix mentioned, once the launcher is opened there will certainly be additional options.

Thank you. Your advice is great and perfectly clear.  Much appreciated.

Strange. Mine is 20.2MB.

The actual app is about 20 MB at present..

Other stuff got downloaded as well in my case..

In the Program Files \ WindowsApps folder, you'll find Windows Store folders that are bigger..  Which of course you may already have, if you are a returning Windows Store customer.. (?)

MSFS 2020 & 2024 / Windows 11 / Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF / MSI Pro Z890-S WIFI / Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2 500GB / Corsair Vengeance DDR5 48GB 7000MHz / MSI Geforce RTX 4070Ti Super

Got another SSD (M2) today, and connected it.  Now I have 2 additional SSD's of 1TB each along with my SSD C Drive (1TB also).  One of my M2's is holding P3d V5 and V4.5.  The new one installed today will be dedicated to MFSF 2020.

Also, today I went into my setting, apps, and DIRECTED my 20mg of Flight Simulator directly to my new SSD.  Now, I'm "locked and loaded"!

I went the install new app location in w10 way but i hope we will not have issues with 3part as i cannot open these Microsoft store app folders because of administrator rights and i always hated this .

Anyone else who cant open those folders?

My advise is for you to create 2 new folders on your new ssd. 1 named "msfs" and another named "cache".  When you need to download the sims core files, you need to select a folder, not just a drive letter.  same goes for the rolling cache location. just my 2 cents.

MSFS Alpha tester on W10 Pro x64. Hardware: AMD 5900X 12 core CPU. Cooler Master ML360R AIO, Asus X570-E mobo, Asus Strix 3090 24GB gfx card, G.Skill TridentZ 64GB (4x16) DDR4-3600 RAM, Samsung 970 250GB SSD (OS), Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 pcie-4 NVMe SSD (MSFS install). EVGA 850w Gold cert PSU, CUK Continuum full ATX tower.  43" Sceptre 4K display. VR: HP Reverb G2.

How do you use the Cache folder (example?).  I noticed that when I pointed my MSFS purchase to my new M2 SSD (not used yet), there were a couple of folders created.  I did take your advice, Brandon, and created a new folder called MSFS.

  • Program Files
  • WindowsApps
  • WpSystem

Why were these folders created?  I think I'm supposed to put the new MSFS folder UNDER the Program Files folder that was automatically created. Right?

Need an answer, please. And as expected, I can't access the Apps folder.

- WindowsApps isn't a worry unlike what some here may think. People really need to stop overthinking that folder and screwing with permissions for no reason.

- WpSystem is just another piece of the Windows Apps equation but it is accessible without messing with permissions, nothing to worry about there. Some config files live here for certain apps but not all.

- You can put the MSFS under your Downloads folder and call it Poop. Heck, toss it on the desktop. It really doesn't matter. It just needs to know where to look for its' content.

It's generally recommended only to save shortcuts to the desktop, not files. Various reasons for this, but mainly that you are filling up your C drive (if you haven't moved your desktop folder location to another drive) and also because some antivirus and file cleaning software is set up to ignore the desktop and so may miss any malware etc which may find itself being saved there.

Plus, should you use System Restore, those files are at risk of being deleted if anything was added after your previous restore point was created.

And backup programs may, by default, not backup the desktop, though you may be able to alter the program's settings to do so.

So, in short, just stick shortcuts on the desktop ad save files elsewhere to be on the safe side.

Obviously. It was just a joke to make a point of how it doesn't matter where you put it. Literally anywhere on your PC. There's no specific folder you should put it. Program Files, Downloads, TaxReturns1996, Music. Wherever someone wants the content for FS to be stored, they can put it there.
