Just received a massage from MS an hour ago we will be billing your pre-order in three days,

Yes.  I thought they'd bill upon release.  I've since learned that they bill 10 days out.  That's OK, I guess.  No problem.

Do we get a free massage when they bill us? 🙂

I see people buy SSD's with  500 Gb, 1Tb, 2Tb, but how much is actually needed for the sim? I mean, it's mainly being streamed, so I guess it's the core files that is being installed on our HD's (ssd's)

I have an empty 256GB M2, will you recommend I get something bigger? And my C:\ drive only have 27GB empty space of a 256gb SSD, how much space do I need to free up on it for MSFS?

Microsoft states you need 150 GB HD / SSD space.

but don't forget about the addons that will come with time.

How do you use the Cache folder

cache can be explained after release, just have the folder created for future use.  I didn't put my msfs folder under program files because, to be honest, just doesn't matter.  you can if you want but it just makes it one directory deeper to access later.

  • Program Files
  • WindowsApps
  • WpSystem
  • MSFS
  • Cache <---- some people will have this on a separate hard drive

Fine for now but keep an eye on it. You might want a lot more depending on if caching the previously flown scenery makes a good difference.  When I first heard about it I thought "hell, I will dedicate a 12TB HD for that" but we will see how things unfold.  For now I have about 700GB (of 1TB) dedicated on a RAID 0 set of pci-e 4 x4 m.2 NVMe ssd's  <------stupid fast read speeds

Actually, I have 2 256 GB M2's in external cabinets. but was only planning to use one of them for MSFS, Maybe I will/can use the other one for cache. I really don't plan on buying a lot of addons, as I feel MSFS already have 90% of what I need. There will be some airports that I want when they come out (FlyTampa's Copenhagen, St.Maarten and Corfu & Vidans Danish airports) but that's it. I don't need any payware aircrafts as again MSFS have everything I need.

Is that on the C.\drive, or how much (little) space is needed on c.\ drive?

Yes I will use a different drive both for the programme and the cache, I'm just used to other flightsims like FSX and P3D puts all sorts of files,.dll etc in different places on the C drive, and imagined that MSFS would do the same, the question is just where it puts it and how much space it needs?

Does anybody know anything about the disc version installation? .. I presume it will be similar to how FSX was installed ...  Create a New folder in the root directory ..... for example D:\FS2020 ... ??

Paul, I asked this question a couple of weeks ago, with the response that what you can do with the download version you can do with the boxed version. Yes, for example, C:/MFS. Remember it is NOT called MS2020!

I pre-ordered yesterday and initially got an error message that didn’t allow me to save at all. Then I remembered that I had deactivated all the annoying XBox stuff on my PC (after all, why would I want anything XBox-related on my computer?). I reenabled everything, went into the Store. It has the game listed as having been pre-ordered, but I tried twice to download the installer and both times got errors. Not too worried. Yet. I’ll try it again today.

MSFS creates 8 folder on the PC ready for release.

1 AC

2AppData

3LocalCache

4LocalState

5RoamingState

6Settings

7Staging

8TempState

You have all 8 in two main folders

PS it may surprise you it did not try to install in the default C drive but i selected my D drive SSD and not in program files.

The saga continues..

I had moved my initial MSFS app to my dedicated SSD, but guess what.. MS just sent me a 1 GB update.. and it went back to my C drive, ignoring my previous move.

I have now moved the app one more time, and have 1 GB of stuff on my dedicated SSD.

Heaven only knows where the big download will chose to go.. 😄
