August 12, 20205 yr As for the topic, I can see no reason when A2A FSL PMDG come out for This sim way anyone would want to fly anything else apart from DCS David Murden. August 12, 20205 yr Well if someone wants to fly something else, then more power to them. I certainly will not, but what does it matter 🙂 Fly whatever you want. Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
August 12, 20205 yr I hope MSFS gets FAA certified down the line. If MSFS can get some commercial audience it pretty much leaves Xplane and P3D to the dust. Nothing against these sims but FAA certification is one of the main reasons Xplane is guaranteed continuity.

August 12, 20205 yr Part of the issue for the competition is how they would challenge Microsoft's ability to draw on its satellite/aerial imagery. I'm sure behemoths like Lockheed Martin could negotiate access to such imagery - but why would it ever be worth it for them as a commercial venture? I'd be willing to bet they already do it for simulation of warzones/certain missions etc - but I can't see why they'd ever spend the money to depict someone's house down in downtown Friedrichschafen.... As for the likes of Xplane - they might be able to arrange access to other satellite imagery and come up with their own AI, but then you've got the hurdle of massive cloud computing and streaming services. It's a really hard time to be a developer of another sim!

August 12, 20205 yr This is an epic sim. I can't say more 😉 - if PMDG is saying it - you know this is where the party will be. I hear Lukla looks amazing in MSFS2020 😉 P3D/FSX are sims that do waste my time period once you start fiddling with tons of addons/tweaks. Super tired of optimizing P3D (though it works pretty good) but the legacy code is horrible - I do not know why people are defending old code. Things change. P3D isn't going anywhere but I won't be surprised that LM corporate clients will bug them to have fancy graphics. Who can say no to fancy graphics on the fly. Xplane + Aerofly 2 well they have a fight on their hands no doubt about it. Competition is great thing....we all will benefit and hobby will get expanded. I have seen so many people want to try out MSFS2020 first time simmers - previous graphics just didn't hold them to the sim. Now they all want to take a look at this. DCS will get awesome based on their interviews etc but this is specialized sim with small area terrain focused on air/ground battle. August 12, 20205 yr I think maybe XP will be for even more hardcore simmers going forward. For me it is enough that I *believe* that the airplane I'm flying is somewhat accurate (ie. like what MK from Aerosoft was mentioning in his latest post). I think I will be very happy in MSFS, and the beauty in that sim is such that everything else fades in my eyes. Edit: I feel I have to clarify that I'm a rational person, so if the seem doesn't feel right, it's not enough for me that it has pretty eyecandy. But judging from what is plainly visible to see, I am not so worried about that. They will fix the autopilot functionality, add functionality and tweak and add and grow. And I get to fly my pmdg aircrafts in it, which is a must really. It’s free and open source, as far as I know. Also there is one discontinued freeware that has better data than the default (HD MESH is the name I think). It improves the mesh and general data of the scenery (cities, forests, roads, rivers etc). What blackshark.ai accomplished is years ahead of X-Plane’s plausible World. August 12, 20205 yr Laminar would have to add a subscription I think (to say have google earth terrain like in fs20). not sure how else they could do it .... but honestly Austin seems committed to just better drawn autogen . Hopefully they get better clouds even if they dont go as deep asobo is with real weather .. I'll take volumetric clouds with their current weather engine over what it is now. Xenviro but better. And no more star trek warp speed rain . I'll still use xplane but I hope it improves. When mfs has real airliners it will be though to find a reason to boot xplane up Edited August 12, 20205 yr by Wewk584 [XP11 BETA/FS2020 BETA] [Pilotedge BETA/Vatsim BETA]

The thing is, will X-Plane still be considered mainstream on the flight sim community? Anyone who knows how to fly in the real world, especially instructors will discover this straight away, and I will certainly be investigating how accurately the default GA aircraft fly, including things like stalls, spins, adverse yaw, flaps, ground effect and so on. With 1000 data points it will be interesting to see. David Porrett
August 12, 20205 yr When the Superior Premium Deluxe Hibernating Bear expansion is released this sim will totally wipe the floor with all the other sims. I don’t expect Asobo to rest on their laurels if indeed the competition eventually evaporates, but let’s hope that flight dimming doesn’t become monolithic again. “What would have become of Hercules do you think if there had been no lion, hydra, stag or boar – and no savage criminals to rid the world of? What would he have done in the absence of such challenges? Obviously he would have just rolled over in bed and gone back to sleep. So by snoring his life away in luxury and comfort he never would have developed into the mighty Hercules. And even if he had, what good would it have done him? What would have been the use of those arms, that physique, and that noble soul, without crises or conditions to stir into him action?” Epictetus, c50 - 135 AD

Maybe they won’t need real competition, but new challenges for themselves. Rockstar doesn’t have a real competitor against their GTA. But they keep improving each new version. They have to do so, or they will get irrelevant. I hope Asobo will do the same within the 10 year time of this project and on 2030 we will have another revolution on the genre.
