Do 4K users need NVIDIA 3080 ???

Featured Replies

Yay my very first post in here!

I have a 2070 super and flying with 4k. I'm getting about 50fps with everything on HIGH setting and clouds on ULTRA.

I also have a 3600x CPU and 64gb ram.

So do 4k users need a 3080? No.

Maybe there will be a few 2080Ti’s up for sale at good prices though....

I am selling mine. gonna pick up a 3090......

  • RTX 3070 - $500, faster than RTX 2080 Ti
  • RTX 3080 - $700, double the RTX 2080 performance
  • RTX 3090 - $1.500, 36 shader TFLOPS

A relief to see that the models other than the top-end aren't more expensive than the last generation, and RTX 2080 Ti performance for $500 is a very nice generational leap. Be aware though that these cards will consume lots of power and run really hot, and the Samsung 10nm process is finally confirmed after so much misinformation.

I just watched the live talk. Three units will be launched, 3070, 3080 and 3090.

The 3070 will be around $600 and will be more powerful than the $1400 2080ti. And the 80 and 90 specs are just insane, and still reasonably priced.

Edit: one small potential issue ... availability. My guess is demand might go through the roof.

Samsung 10nm is an older and mature node so if there are any availability issues it will be due to shipments blocked by corona. Apparently NVIDIA have been sitting on this announcement for quite a while, so I think it's unlikely. They do not want a repeat of first-generation Kepler.

I hope you're right. Lucky that this Bitcoin mining crazyness has shifted to dedicated hardware.

Any one else think these will all be bought up and then resold for 2x the cost?

simmer since SubLogic days...

no benchmark comparisons between 3080 and 3090 unfortunately. neither did they say what FPS they were running at 8k w/RT - still very impressive though.

Sept. 22 is my birthday 😁

I think VR users need at least the 3080 to get good experience.

And no comparisons between the RTX 2080 Ti and any of the new cards. There is still a lot that has to be revealed. Hopefully they will hurry up with the architecture's whitepaper.

You can set up a notification at the bottom of this page for any card: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/
