Because with some teams, it's not about creating something great for the community, but about stroking their own ego's. It's all about themselves.

So people spend hundreds of hours dedicating their time to give something for free to the community, yet it's all about themselves? Are you for real?

If you don't approve of the terms and conditions in which someone else's intellectual property is used, then walk away, pay for a different product, or develop your own.

That's the whole point. There is no violation of terms and conditions. He seems not to want people enjoying his work. The developer is against it because he's not the one making his work available for users of MSFS and VATSIM but someone else. That spells E-G-O to me. That or he's too stubborn to understand what's going on.

FSLTL is giving all the credit to the people who made the models and liveries. FSLTL wont host any liveries or models they don't have explicit rights to do so, just making it possible to be used within the new sim. including the VATSIM community, that's all. In the meanwhile all the developers can make their work live up to the higher standard MSFS deserves.

Wow, what a bunch of crooks FSLTL are....

A developer is a person who enriches software with his creations. Some charge money for it and some don't. He who does not charge, only has two options: either publish what he has developed or keep it quietly for himself. If he publishes it ... why does he do it? Do you want the rest of us to know what he can do but can never use? If we used your discovery, asking your permission, could we? that's what FTLAI does: Ask permission. So there is no problem. Everything else is ego.

come on! lets enjoy!

If you feel so forcefully how horrible we all are, provide us with your IP's and gamertags and we will ensure you never have to suffer the horror of using our work ever again.

What a lovely community-driven spirit 🙄

If I'm understanding everything correctly:

FSLTL was never going to host any modified models or liveries without permission from the creators first.

They are modifying some models and liveries, or asking the original model/livery makers to modify the files themselves to make them work better with MSFS. Doing things like making it so the textures don't glow, since MSFS doesn't seem to like FSX's lightmaps. Though I'm not sure why they're modifying any models? Maybe they're just converting them to GTIF format MSFS uses.

Since AIG isn't giving them permission to do anything to their models and textures, MSFS will just use the unmodified models/textures you'll find in the FLAi package.

A new update about the license issue:

Quote

This is a direct continuation of AIG ban and Contribution 8 thread and its clarification.
Previous main tread can be found here.

Please read carefully before leaving a comment.

I’m obliged to inform you, that day after this misunderstanding happened, Alpha-India Group artists revoked permissions to use their products in the FLAi for F3d and Prepar3d, it’s inaccessible for download since 29th Dec.

As Alpha-India livery artists stated in the discussion following this event, their concern is our trailers and other media, stating the unclarity of the shown models and liveries origin. Unfortunately, despite good intentions, it appeared that the videos, descriptions, and pictures we shared
can give the impression that FSLTL created the original models and liveries that are shown.

To be clear, it was never our intention to portray the models and liveries in the videos as being created by us. That’s why we are taking our trailers and screenshots on the Discord channel down.

Also they demanded, and I have to be very serious here, AIG artists have an absolute right to do so, that no AIG content will be used in FSLTL directly or indirectly.

This is why, in order to restore FLAi in the shape everyone used to and comply with the legal demand of the authors of the original content, we are breaking any agreements with FLAi. On the moment of this text being posted, AIG artists haven’t restored their permissions, but we hope they will do so shortly.

Formal text of the agreements is shown below.

FAQ [Will be populated in response to the comment section]
Is FSLTL canceled now?
Of course it’s not! We’re continuing the development just as planned before. However, it’s obvious we will need your help as many of the liveries must be remade in order to be used with FSLTL.

Three artists, @AirplaneNiner, @Xplane73 and @vLegion are joined the team already, we’re extremely grateful for them as they are people making FSLTL possible. We welcome all livery artists to help us make AI and VATSIM model-matching for the MSFS as it should be done. Obviously all livery contributors will have access to the closed alpha and will be properly attributed.

If you would like to participate, contact (@SofieGrozovski or @Rambo) on Discord 1 or by mail ([email protected])

What about the release date?
This can sound paradoxically, but these events made it’s easier for us to release public beta sooner, than we expected, as there is no need to develop a sophisticated algorithm for FLAi package injection. Sure, there will be not as many liveries on the launch as it was intended, but with help of the community talents, this can be overcame in the reasonable time.

What FSLTL looks like now?
It looks great. However we’ve chosen to separate this statement and one with the new media in the time and space. It will be an additional announcement, few days later.

What happens with VATSIM now?
As agreements with FLAi are void now, we won’t port FLAi to the MSFS. However FSLTL will support VATSIM on it’s own.

What will happen with FLAi now? Is it back online? When it will be?
As I can’t speak for AIG or FLAI, this question should be addressed, for example, on the official FLAi Facebook 9.

[…]

I’m asking everyone to stay calm and civil in the discussion below.

So now FLAi and FSLTL will not be able to package any liveries associated with AIG artists.

I hope Asobo see the absolute futility in letting this core element be taken on by a fractured freeware community and just finish the job they started by bringing it in house.

then...is the death of that project? 😞

They said no, only liveries from AIG won't be included. Also, they want people to submit liveries.

Asobo is working on their own already, as others have said they need to get permission from the airlines.

If all they need are liveries, just post a link to GIMP and the templates and go for it.

I did four liveries the other day...

Not liveries for the default aircraft.

It's a shame to see people so adamant about not sharing freeware work. If you're making freeware, you're spending countless hours producing something for the community without compensation - wouldn't you like to see that work be enjoyed by as many people as possible at zero loss to you (while of course being credited)? I simply don't get it.

This is part of the reason FBW is working to move our content to the less-restrictive MIT license for open-source. At the end of the day, we all want to have as much quality content on this simulator platform as possible to enjoy - why put up unnecessary barriers, especially for freeware? On another note, I honestly hope that Zibo reconsiders refusing to make the Zibo 737 open-source for X-Plane - from what I've heard, it's a personal decision and not one from Laminar, and it would truly give the LevelUp folks and the XP11 community a boost. Open-source is the way to go.

Please do not contact me via DM for support or help with the A32NX mod. We recommend using our help channel on our Discord.

I want Flight1 Live Traffic. 🙂
