Wow that is indeed a good one. I am impressed by the quality of freeware airports that are coming to MSFS. This airport and Istanbul Airport. Keep them coming 😄

Is scenery easier to make in MSFS? I’ve downloaded a lot of freeware airports recently and I’m just blown away by how good some of it is.

Yep is easy. If you have already modeled your airport in your favorite 3D program, from there is fairly easy, which explains the big influx of sceneries in very short amount of time.

Asobo has done very good job on the scenery SDK, if just they would have done the same to the aircraft SDK, we could have PMDG by now in the sim 😆

While I agree that the runway looks fantastic, imho the resolution of the tarmac texture at the gates/parking positions is too low and it looks like a bad satellite image. Minor criticism though, the scenery otherwise is a masterpiece for freeware.

Improving satellite imagery will take a lot of time and effort. Large pictures will take away your FPS. The runway is made of repeating parts, so it looks better. You can't do that with an apron. It will lose its authenticity. The apron can be drawn, but you will understand that it is a drawing. For me, the original image is a priority. If Byng's maps were of the same quality, we'd be happy.) So here is the best compromise solution.

Quite right, there is a lot of really good freeware stuff around and I've downloaded quite a few of them.  You can create images from google and models too, you can build airports and cities, but you can get some fairly nice results just placing objects on the ground (I made a few glider fields in FSX that way) - Just need an object placing program like RWY12 which got me started on scenery creation.  Eventually after having some fun with Tileproxy, I was making scenery from satellite photos using Earth Tiles, building mesh, creating watermasks and all sorts of things.  I've been out of the game a while due to illness and just finding FSX getting a bit stale but I intend to start relearning some of those skills and applying them to MSFS over time.

There is a lot to learn, can be very time consuming and times.can can test your patience, but the results can be stunning, just start with the basics, like object placing and gradually build up your skills.  Take it in bite sized chunks and you will find one aspect of scenery creation will naturally lead you to the next level.

We had a few programs in FSX to help us and I'm sure these will gradually be developed in MSFS over time.

For the moment, I'm just enjoying the wonderful new MSFS features and some of the freeware being made (I've only needed to buy one payware airport so far).

I just got an email from Aerosoft that they released a small tiny airport payware Sekiu Airport & Marina for 12 EUR ($15-16$?)

with so many awesome freewares out there, wish  these big publishers would focus on mega airports like Charles de Gaul or Singapore or Bali or KIAH (Houston) or these mega mega airports instead,

In the what, five months that the simulator has been out, I already have more scenery in my favorite area (the Caribbean) that I did in years of FSX or P3D. In addition, some of them are tiny little airports that no payware creator ever would have made. In the quality is just amazing.

I came here actually looking to find out if there were some tutorials on how to do this, and I'm glad to see the ones that were recommended. I've noticed as well that the size of the files is tiny.

Everyone is looking for something different from the simulator, but I have to say that for my use, I'm extremely pleased with where we are five months in.

Manny,

Please tell me you are using the addon linker or similar item on your load ins.  When I hear 10 min load in times, I like what?...  For me here in the US, I've got

sub directories for each state.  It's just a matter of turning on my departure and arrival state.  Plus it makes troubleshooting so much easier for conflicts.  You may already be doing something of the sort then never mind, but if not, it will cut your load in times drastically.

That is actually a great idea !

Say's who? how long did it take for PMDG to get their products into FSX or P3D? But lets all fault MS/Asobo for trying to provide more modern tech and not trying to go word not allowed backwards. (SDK)
