February 11, 20215 yr Hi everybody, I would like to ask here if some of you still use P3Dv4 - v4.3 or did you meanwhile change to newer versions (because of PBR and some improvements without paying for a newer version like P3Dv5). The reason why I ask is because I want to release my new scenery RAF Brüggen which is chiefly designed in and for P3Dv4.5 - it should also work in lower versions, but testing it in P3Dv4.1 on my old rig caused some ground polygon issues. Would like to remove doubts regarding this before release, but I supposed there are only few people who use these older versions. I would appreciate if you could give me a short answer when you use versions before v4.5. Due to similar topics in other forums I want to get an overview for me to take correct action. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. I believe whoever still use V4 will use the latest version, there's almost no reason to use the older version of V4. From what I have experienced with my old computer, for every update the simulator just get better and better(both stabilize and performance) . If I am a developer, I will release my software for the current version(s) which majority use, and for the future will update it to compatible with newer one and also the original as much as I could. February 11, 20215 yr Yes, I still occasionally use P3D v5 for PMDG and FSlabs, but X-Plane 11 is my most commonly used sim. February 11, 20215 yr Author Thanks, guys. Yes, you confirm my opinion. Usually, it makes no sense anymore to use any earlier versions when you can upgrade to v4.5 without any additional payment and getting an improved sim. Nevertheless I would like to await some further reports the next few days before I decide to only release for 4.5. I have FSX in mind and - 2022 - the version for MSFS....
February 11, 20215 yr I can understand hesitancy to go to V5. DX12 isn't always friendly to all computer systems.
February 12, 20215 yr I can test it for you in P3DV5.1 for you if you'd like. Let me know [email protected]. Canadian here always glad to help out a Brit. James
February 12, 20215 yr I never stayed with the older 4 versions, always updated to the next version. With v5 I hesitated the first time but after half a year when 5.1 came out, I changed and did not use v4.5 HF3 ever since. I'm on 5.1 HF1 now but I also got a RTX3090 for it. Crazy OS=WIN11 Home, Sim=P3D5 5.3 (P3D4 and FSX for install reasons) Addons=ORBX, ASCA, AS, TOGA and tons of sceneries, aircraft MB=Gigabyte AORUS Z790 Elite AX, CPU=i13900K, Cooling=Be quiet! February 12, 20215 yr The latest 4.5 for me. I do have 5 as well, however it's just not there yet for me and I'm quite willing to wait to see what LM come out with for the next updates. I was actually thinking about P3D vs. MSFS and although compatibility is really good for P3D in that I've been able to migrate most of the aircraft and addins I like from FSX days (and thus had many years of use), its been a double edged sword with most aircraft / airports never being updated past the bare minimum to get them functional / installed into later P3D releases, thus they're still essentially an FSX addin that just happens to work in P3D, not in all cases of course but for many - yeah that's the way it is. 😞 For the most part I don't mind P3D, with the right tuning and hardware P3D is very good, but I cannot help but think its been the sim to use because there's been not much in the way of compelling competition until now. The future will be quite interesting. February 12, 20215 yr Considering the major addons people use on V4 such Active sky , PMDG, Leonardo Maddog, FSlabs Airbus, Aerosoft Airbus, SODE etc require the latest V4.5, I honestly wouldn't target anything less.
February 12, 20215 yr V5.1 and no looking back! It's running great on my system (no EA). Well, for me, especially the great improvement in performance P3Dv5 gave me! I can increase settings quite a bit AND use Orbx True Earth sceneries which I couldn't before! February 12, 20215 yr Commercial Member I'm with Frank (above), I have both v4 and v5 installed (along with all the other simulators), and v4 is still my go-to simulator. I don't believe v5 will match v4 for the aircraft I fly (MaddogX, B712, Majestic Dash 8, PMDG 737 NGXu/747ii/777 for about another year yet especially with the EA stuff. I love the troublefree nature of v4. But like everything else in flight sim, your hardware and which software you run, and your settings make all the difference.
