Aerosoft CRJ (Initial Installation)

Featured Replies

I am inclined to think that since Asobo is making the sim for Microsoft, and Microsoft is a big and influential player in the way things go in terms of computer architecture, it's probably at the behest of their masters at Redmond that Asobo, Aerosoft et all are using this coding and distribution method.

Even if you know a lot about computers and stuff, I bet you don't know as much as Microsoft does in terms of where things are heading.

So...say I have 5 complicated aircraft with a bunch of WASM code, do I get to spend an hour after every update sitting and waiting for it to recompile?

What a great design Asobo.  🙄

This is the kind of stupidity you end up with when you use "web frameworks" that are intended for a few lines of code on a website to write parts of a complex simulation.

Go play xp11 then .

Well, in fairness, there is a nice CRJ for that.

If all goes well, that's Ok, because you know what you're doing, which is obviously not the case during a computer compilation that last that long.

Big difference!.

I will explain my concern with this situation if Aerosoft AND developers like PMDG, ect use this install procedure......

I don't know  how many aircraft I will obtain for years to come but I can assure you I do not want to wait around 7 or so minutes PER AIRCRAFT.  Lets say I have 5 from Aerosoft and 7 from PMDG, that is 84 minutes.

My concern is not for the initial installs because I wont be installing all 12 aircraft one after another as I will be getting them at different times. BUT if I have to reinstall the sim THEN I would be. there is 84 minutes just for those aircraft.

Ok, so sim reinstalls hopefully will be few and far between.  Lets not forget about the warning that this could occur after an update.  Well....you can see where i'm going with this.

I hope for all of us that this won't be the case with a lot of aircraft.  Maybe multiple aircraft can be doing this process simultaneously utilizing our nice multicore CPUs.

Just a thought, thats all.

Agree 100% @Brandon01110

In addition to the time, giving no user feedback (a blank screen for "10+ minutes" on lower spec PCs) is a huge issue.  There needs to be some pop up or something that tells the user what is going on.  Otherwise both Asobo and the 3DP developers are going to be flooded with new support requests.

The "Legacy" flight model setting is already causing a large support burden for both paid and freeware aircraft makers, and Asobo continues to ignore requests to allow the aircraft makers to specify/override the flight model.

We really don't need another poor design putting more support requests onto the aircraft makers.

If the Aerosoft aircraft is like the one in the WT A320, the compilation only happens the first time you actually load the aircraft into the sim. The presence of the aircraft package in the community folder alone is not going to trigger the compile. So even if you have 10 WASM-enabled aircraft in your community folder, it is not going to make MSFS pause for 200 minutes. Even the “10 minutes” might be a worst case estimate. It might not take that long.

Ideally when MSFS detects that a new WASM add-on is being compiled for the first time, it should display a message along the line of “preparing (name of add on) for first use - please standby”, but that would be something Asobo would have to add to the sim. I don’t think a 3rd party developer could do it.

I am still surprised that MSFS does not display some kind of initial splash screen on launch before the main logo screens appear. As it stands now, when you launch MSFS from the desktop, it appears that nothing is happening at all for about 30 seconds. If you launch MSFS using FSUIPC7, you will get the aforementioned initial splash screen, which was probably 5 minute’s work for John Dowson to implement. Asobo could easily do the same.

Nothing wrong with complaining, as long as it's a reasonably legitimate complaint of course. But I'm inclined to think having to wait a whole ten minutes is hardly the end of the world, we've seen things in the past such as ATC add-ons and such have to scan airport databases and compile stuff which take that kind of time to get themselves sorted out.

Anyway, to help, here are a few things you can do in ten minutes...

Around the house:

Boil two eggs (one at a time).

Outside the house:

Go for a ten minute walk (or a twenty minute walk, if you run).

If you are Carenado:

Thoroughly beta test your new add-on aeroplane.

If you are a youtube 'influencer':

Record, edit, render and upload one of your 'comprehensive' reviews of a new flight sim product.

If you work at Ryanair as cabin crew:

Complete the entire customer service care training programme.

If you are a new pilot for PIA:

Complete the entire flying training syllabus for piloting the Airbus A320.

If you are Boeing:

Write the entire type conversion training syllabus for the MCAS system on the 737 MAX.

If you are Bredok3D:

Make an add-on Boeing 737 MAX.

Take a bow sir , take a bow . Brilliant.

Why are you blaming Asobo? Blame the add-on programmers who insist on coding in C++.

Programmers use C++ because simple XML, Json, and HTML methods do not allow for complex interactions with the sim base. It's not that difficult a concept.

Really, which one? When I was looking for one (a year ago or so) there were only such with default FMC.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

This one. It's not bad for 35 quid, not super-duper, but for the money it's fun.

That's not the JRollon, right? Is the FMC custom (authentic)? XP devs happen to slap the default one in all too often for my taste. The only regional jet I found that does not have either a default or fantasy FMC was the E-Jet series by SSG.

Happy with MSFS 🙂
