Hello All;

Here are the basic steps for inserting your custom routes to this wonderful addon(Global AI Ship Traffic = GAIST). These steps will be just guidance and you will need to search, understand and apply the details by yourselves. But, it is really simple.

1- Download and learn about free tool AIBTC (AI Boat Traffic Compiler) from this link http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/boat/  Do not forget to install java from this link : https://www.java.com/en/download/

2-There are 3 files required to compile a bgl.

-Ship Names file (txt) = To choose which ship model from the library to be shown on that route This can be extracted from original addon files of GAIST and can be editted to your needs.

-Plan file (txt) = Defines the schedules of the ships, timetables. This can be extracted from original addon files of GAIST and can be editted to your needs.

-Route file (kml)  = Defines the route coordinates of the ships. This will be created with Google Maps. Find a video on Youtube to learn this, which is very easy. (Creating kml files with Google Maps)

3-Put all three files on the left side of AIBTC software and compile your required bgl on the right side of the software. Be sure to have the names and the numbers of three files are in accodiance with each other.

4- Put the new created bgl file in the same folder that contains other bgl files of the GAIST.

5- Rebuild the layout.json file again with MFSLayoutGenerator  https://github.com/HughesMDflyer4/MSFSLayoutGenerator

Fire the sim and there you go... Happy fying.

but, don't work if we use addonlinker?

Yep needs to be in community folder always. May be we can get them to modify so we can use FSaddon linker but for now no joy

I am using it with the Linker. No issues here.

Mine is working as well, but it makes a folder directly inside the community folder on first run.  It would be nice to be able to move it out of there alongside its original folder (in whichever place you keep your addons), and link it from there.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Ignore the additional folder it creates. They are due to conversion from P3d. Even if you delte it, it will pop back again.

Two quick things here...works for me with add on linker. Is that 5-6% some type of magic number or something? I forgot to check options before I tried a flight, there was a cruise ship just on the coast of St. Croix, and one at Puerto Rico, and one default ship between the two enroute. Didn’t seem overly populated by any means...after the flight I checked options my ships and ferries were set to 50. Why would I want to drop it to 5-6? I did drop it and will check the results in a few minutes, but curious.

That is the setting the developer has tested it at.  He says you can set higher but you might get duplicate ships.

this is from earlier in the thread: Reduce your AI setting for ships and ferries to 6% and you should get all of the Global AI Ship Traffic but not the Asobo ships or at least not as many of them - especially the yacht is repeated a lot if you have a high setting.

I noticed a 10-20 sec load time where my frames drop down to 5-10 fps when its loading the ships seems line its a one time thing.

Noticing the same since its first installation yesterday. It does not have MSFS native models, so the add-on needs to covert all the .mdl files from FSX/P3D to properly work. When you change your location it starts loading up, converting and writing new ship models to your disk (notice that it creates a second folder inside your Community, with a "_CVT_" added to the name, on which all the model conversions are stored). These actions create short sim pauses that are quite annoying to me. Sim loading times also increased noticeably with this add-on.

I think it still needs some work, but at least is already here.

[EDIT]: Posted this at the sim forums and Mr. Nielsen kindly responded and he's aware of this behavior.

Cheers, Ed

It basically freezes for a good while, and when it comes back it's 2 seconds per frame. (not 2 frames per second)
