TDS Sim releases GTNXi!

That's what I've been saying since this was released. In panel is purely cosmetic to me, much more efficient to popup the gauge and work that way.

A2A has had the GTN 750 in some of the GA aircraft for years. You click on it in the panel, it expands, you do what you have to do, and click on it again and it goes back in the panel. You only need one monitor that way.

I did it this way with Jean-Luc's @RXP excellent work in P3d for ages, and if/when he sorts it out in MSFS....I'll be buying it day one...even if I buy this one 1st.  I support great devs even at the expense of duplicating like-products. 😉

Why not both? I know that some folks are on a fixed income, but honestly most of us have no problem spending $100 or more a month on our hobby, I know I often do. Right now the pms50 is free so no loss anyway. When the pms50 becomes payware then pay for it and move on. I am not criticizing and we all have our preferences I am just saying they both seem to be quality add ons and both developers seem to be top notch. Currently the TDS unit seems to be slightly more capable of "real world" stuff...but, horse for courses and all that.

Personally I’m waiting to see what Working Title does with the default systems before I jump on this, but that’s just me.

This discussion has taken me back to something I have been mulling over for some time. I recall it being stated that the SKD did not support integration of third-party avionics and if I remember correctly it was because this was an aspect of flight simulation that Asobo believes is part of the core simulation platform and therefore they want to work at it to get it right and to be accessible to all. That said, with avionics the initial release left a lot to be desired in terms of depth of simulation. Almost immediately, people began to work on it and had it been left this way my perception would have been that this is similar to the approach of LM -- make a basic platform and leave everything -- even core functionality like turboprop logic, weather, avionics -- to others. But Asobo brought on Working Title and they have said their goal is a 1:1 correspondence of the simulated avionics to the real world. I said at the time this strengthened my confidence in Asobo and the future of MSFS. Why?

That commitment bodes very well for the future because every developer will have access to high-fidelity avionics. There is no need for each developer to build their own, which should shorten development time and cost and make it possible to bring many more aircraft at more reasonable prices to the market. Remember how  Milviz lamented the complexity of developing the Proline for the King Air and how long it took them. What if there had already been available an avionics package they could use that needed only some customization and refinement, and that had official support. Once we have a Nxi unit with close to a 1:1 correspondence, any developer can integrate that into their model, they do not have to either develop their own or license one from another developer. It is there, ready to be used.

Maybe I have this wrong -- I only have so much time to try to keep up with what has become a swiftly moving hobby. But if this is basically correct, flight simulation will be both enriched and more accessible than it has ever been.

Is what you are describing more than just the typical popup that you prefer to keep on a single screen rather than moving it? I have the GTN750 in the A2A Cherokee 180, and I can click on the GTN's boarder to pop it up and down  --  so nothing unusual popup-wise.  Or is there some popup feature A2A has implemented that I'm not aware of?   Nothing says you need to use a second screen, I just prefer that for things like approach charts, Little Navmap, GTNs, etc.  Using a second monitor where I can resize things is much easier on my old eyes!    😉

My $0.02 - I won’t buy into the TDS product line until there is full cockpit integration, including full VR support.  Everybody has their own pet peeves for what are “immersion killers” for them and, well, for me, big-a$$ed pop-out windows are worse than many other problems I can think of.  Personal opinion.  I’ll stick with the PMS50 products until things change on that front.

Sorry I didn't want to insult any developers but it came out frustration from what we read from "some" third party developers here in Avsim (I think you know who ;))

Hehe.  Definitely.   And it's satisfying to see that particular party becoming the byword for the kind of developer who'd rather rage about not being given their dinner on a plate than adapt and look for progressive solutions -- and not just in this thread, but in others recently, as well.   But this thread's not about them so I'll stop that thought there.  😄

Besides, TDS is a fabulous counter to that:  they are clearly not that type of developer, and they are to be praised for that.   And it's good for them, too.  They're making money in MSFS today.

This is absolutely what we hope to be able to do.  If you take a developer like, say Carenado -- without arguing about the validity of it, it's commonly accepted by many that their visuals are almost always top notch, but systems depth isn't necessarily there.   And some people value their products less because of that.

But if MSFS can provide avionics better than anything ever seen in a stock sim before, for free, by default...  their own work becomes a lot more attractive to more people, as does MSFS itself.   Why buy P3D and get the same stale G1000 implementation, when you can buy MSFS and get a killer NXi in everything?

It's a win all around.

I have the GTNXi on my iPad and enjoy it a lot.

Question. How are  you acheiving this.  I have read the product information and the documententation and see no reference to tablets.  Only to multi-monitor setups.

I get that...My statement was not an indictment, just an exhortation to support quality developers. The internet encourages tribalism but I do understand that some have to be more careful with their budget, thus my "horses for courses" comment.

There is a video on using a tablet with SpaceDesk and MSFS here:  https://spacedesk.net/
