30th June 2021 Developer Q&A: Complete/Quick Summary

That's weird, i have the same cpu, the 9900k, but with some thermal throttling at 4.2-4.4 ghz with a 2080,and the cpu is the issue on my config.

Using the fps counter, i have the same result as Seb. Getting 30-35 fps, with a lot of red cpu side

So I guess SU5 will massively improve my performance

I am running 5.0 GHz on all cores w/360mm AIO cooler. Perhaps you just aren't pushing it hard enough or have insufficient cooling? I have never been CPU limited- even with the 3080 it is more often GPU limited than CPU limited, but way way closer to balanced than it used to be with my 2080 founders edition.

I have a laptop that can accept desktop CPU, but with a 2 years old standard thermal paste and a very good, but somewhat limited air-cooling.

I will meet the seller in a couple of weeks to apply some liquid metal GRIZZLY Conductonaut, I hope this may be enough to stop the throttling. I will also ask him to try some under-volting, if my CPU can handle it without loosing performance.

I wonder if GPU limited users may benefit from these optimizations as well ? (Struggling with RTX 3070 @t 4K with %100 render as expected) During Q&A and afterwards with the clues we have I think that it will be all about CPU and if you're not limited by CPU you shouldn't expect anything significant for yourself ? Am I wrong ? I'am no expert on systems so I need your ideas on that. I have AMD 5600X and from the day I purchased I have ever never got a limited by mainthread warning with even 4k down to 1080p. So ı want to know if there is any possibility beyond my knowledge that can save me buying from 3090.

(Consistent 30 fps on 4K is all Ok for me but rtx 3070 is not able to perform this level as we know)

Kind regards.

I'd really expect you to benefit in the GPU limited case. Just look at the details in the FPS counter in the Dev Q&A video: with SU4, the GPU takes 25-28ms to render the scene, with SU5 it's down to 16-ish. Also the drawcalls are reduced from 3500 to 1600, and the total face count went down from about 6.5-8 million to around 5million.

Can't promise anything of course, but to me this is a clear indication that the performance update does indeed reduce the load on the GPU a lot.

I'm more worried what up to 100% GPU could do to my chip temp.

Why? Pretty much every game runs the GPU at 100%, flight simulators (and maybe some other sim titles) are the only exceptions to the rule because they're so CPU bound most of the time.

Hmm. I didn't pay too much attention to these stats. I just saw the GPU and CPU usage they shared via windows and came to a conclusion which wasn't quite correct after your share I guess. So from your statements and some stats in detail I will still keep to hope having some improvements on my side as well. It would be a miracle for me if I will be able to maintain 30fps with high settings 4k on rtx3070. Anyway GPU stocks are becoming avail these days and worst case scenario I would visit pc store after seeing the update. Thanks for comment.

Kind regards.

You should, GPUs are made to run at 100% all time. They shouldn’t overheat because of that. When I say overheat, I mean over 100º celsius.

But, of course, some GPUs will run hotter than others. Wind flow, number of fans etc all matter to the temperatures.

Having your GPU running above 80ºC isn’t ideal, but it won’t burn because of that. Unless it’s faulty, the GPU has some means to protect itself.

i have no update at microsoft store available ? hmm

...it's not coming out until late this month

Funny that so many people complain about "grainy reflections" but almost none about the utterly immersion killing fact that reflections of bridges and ships are just plain wrong on certain angles. Even more funny that many screenshots even from payware addons exist showing this exact issue and seemingly nobody cares? How can that be? I still hope it will get fixed some day, as it jumps into my eyes evertime I fly above a bridge or close to a ship...

Greetings, Chris

What about clouds??? Are working on a fix to make them look softer ? Less grainy?

oh and the sensitivities is bad really bad, using the a320 fbw the pitch on take off and landing bouncing is insane even with me adjusting the sensitivities. And rudder pulling to the right etc.

Perhaps I’m doing something wrong?

im using saitek throttles and rudders

cheers

You're doing something wrong or your stuff needs to be calibrated and configured.
