Great news on the optimisations, was just about to buy a 5900x too

puts £500 back in his pocket

Coming from a 3900x probably wouldn’t see impressive gains anyway

I disagree about that one. Going from 3900X to 5900X improved performance in cities and highly complex scenery for me. By a lot.

But with the coming performance upgrade, maybe it won't be necessary.

ChaoticBeauty, thanks so much for the update and information contained in the new Q&A. Very exciting news! 😃

Great news about trees! But is it just the radius at more northerly/southerly latitudes that's being fixed, I wonder? The issues certainly appear to be more pronounced there but the tree radius is still pretty awful in the UK, for example, and literally nothing like it was at release or with the tree mods.

True!  We will have to wait and see.  It certainly looked a lot better with their own before and after photos.  I was watching it on a 4k TV and I struggled to see where the tree line vanished on their improved version, whereas it was easily obvious on their 'before' photo.

They found the latitude bug, and said tree LOD radius should be restored to about 15km everywhere now, no matter how far north or south you go, which will certainly be a lot better, and you never know, the tree mods might work again!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I have a 3900x myself, so with the CPU bound performance MSFS often has, I've checked the upgrade options too. Looks like the 5900x provides a 25% performance boost in FSX (when CPU limited), which is nothing to scoff at. But I already decided to wait for the next refresh, which is going to triple the L3 cache on the CPU. The last upgrade before a new motherboard is needed.

With the upcoming performance improvements, it'll be a lot easier to wait.

Yes, Seb stated the fix is in for all latitudes. This is very welcome news! 😊

Yes, but they're planning to release another refresh before Zen 4 which still uses AM4, with 3d-stacked cache dies on the CPU die. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16725/amd-demonstrates-stacked-vcache-technology-2-tbsec-for-15-gaming . This is going to add another 15% of gaming performance on top of the Ryzen 5000 series, and is set for release in early 2022. The last generation for AM4.

Not to go too much off topic but AMD will be releasing Vertical Cache CPU's which promises to bring an additional 15% performance to the Chip. I will be offloading My chip for one of them the moment they go on sale lol.

Consider it Zen 3+

I think they would have beaten socket AM4 to death at that point. 😄

Indeed, but Zen 3 with 3D V-Cache will probably be on AM4.

In case you've missed those news: https://www.anandtech.com/show/16725/amd-demonstrates-stacked-vcache-technology-2-tbsec-for-15-gaming

~15% improved gaming performance by stacking more L3 cache on top of the CCD. Should be enough to keep up with Alder Lake.

Either way, everyone will be getting a free PC upgrade with Sim Update 5. 😀

@pstrub beat me to the punch! Nice to see a lot of techies keeping up with the news!

Guess I updated my 12 year old System too early then :-). I am happy already now with my new modest i5-10600kf and I did not even overclock it yet🤪
