Switching to Marketplace as I will also run the Xbox version.

I don't anymore. Orbx isn't Orbx anymore. Only in name.

Should I not have said this?

Thanks all, I’ve gone with Central and am using addon linker do I can select only the areas I need

ORBX ORBX ORBX- you'll meed orbx central to manage the scenery anyway, so why go through 2 steps when you can do it in one?  Let Orbx do the grunt work of installation.

Forever indebted to the late Michael Greenblatt of FSGS.

I buy from ORBX.  Easy to use, easy to update.  I actually like buying in AUD because it’s one of the few currencies where the Canadian dollar is actually more valuable and I end up paying less than the price I see 🙂

Orbx Central. It makes it so easy to manage/install/update/remove your purchases. Its like Steam - but just for Orbx.

I will never touch the MS Marketplace if I was paid to even. Glad I got MSFS on Steam!

I have been admiring the Orbx scenery and am about to push the button on a couple of purchases, but I see there are two options if you want to add their sceneries

1. Install Orbx Central

Pros

- get updates immediately

-can install files to another folder and link to Community folder

-Orbx get 100% of proceeds

Cons

- Have to pay in AUD, so unsure of exact price

- Exchange rate issues

-Have to install Orbx Central on gaming PC

2. Purchase via MSFS Marketplace

Pros

-No need for Orbx Central install

-Can pay in GBP, so I know the exact cost

Cons

-Delay in updates

-Files installed into Official folder

-Files stored directly in game folder, not loaded via a link

-Microsoft take a cut of proceeds

What is your choice?

Not sure why you would waste your money. All of this 3rd party scenery appears to be rushed to market to see who can complete an airport first and grab peoples money. After purchasing a couple they really aren't that much better than what is included in the game.

Seems like a total waste of money!

The few I have purchased have been through the marketplace. For all the downsides to it, the upside of having the majority of my stuff in 1 "download manager" is worth it imo.

I've only bought a few small airports on sale, so I just get them from the marketplace.  I figure they've already been updated by the time I get to them.

No ... not always. Some developers have said that the process of getting anything onto Marketplace is so slow and tortuous, that the product has already been patched a few times by the time it finally appears.

You need to pay more attention to reviews before purchasing.

The quality of third party airports varies from some very basic imports no better than freeware all the way up to some which are little short of amazing.

Don't think I will ever by Orbx anymore. Just feel like it is unnecessary.

ORBX for me too, it's a great app - very easy to navigate and the map that shows addons you own, which are discounted and the others available is cool. Marketplace, yeah nah, not unless I have too. I'd rather use the developers installers for quick updates, but having to manage many is a pain in a way. I just put all the app icons in a specific section on my desktop and check them all once in a while which works well.

The main problem for me with ORBX is their insanely slow download speeds.
With the MSFS market place downloads are always in the megabits per second whereas with ORBX it's kilobits.
