If these 'compatible' ones don't kick-in until about 68 fps, it would be no use to me.  Looks like you saved me some more money!

The bad(!) ones kick in at 48 - not 68.

Better ones can go down to 30 and then there is LFC as well. VRR/Freesync is quite nice actually. Nvidia has little interest to support it correctly though, guess why 😄

OK cup of tea time.

You have 1440P (2560 x 1440) @120Hz so you could proberly set 60Hz as well.

You have to options that are going to work best for you. As they do for me, and I have done countless hours setting.

You can Keep you 120Hz, then in MSFS/options/ V-Sync On / Set to 20 FPS. Its not 20 FPS even if it says it, it 1/3 refreash rate. So you will have 40 FPS cap and thats the setting i use for all but the PMDG DC-6 and after SU6 hopefully that will also run perfect with them setting.

No dont worry about stutter when at the gate doing big looks left to right etc, also SU6 will bring FOV slider. Stangle as it is ATM, the second I lift of the ground I can pan as fast as I like with no stutters.

The other setting is simply set you screen to 60Hz, then in MSFS/options/ V-Sync On / Set to 30 FPS, that also wrong but right when at 60Hz, becasue it should read 1/2 refreash rate. So you will get FPS locked at 30.

So both them setting are your best options. IMO. Trust me on that.

Thank you, will try the first option! Couple of questions around NVIDIA setting and what they should be set to if I use your first option.

Low Latency Mode?

Vertical Sync?

Thanks for that info Dave.  It seems that a 'compatible' one would be no use for me then.

I can easily do 30 fps, but not quite 60, so my plan was to limit at around 45 through something like RTSS and match it to a G-Sync monitor, as obviously I only have the 30 or 60 option at the moment.

If these 'compatible' ones don't kick-in until about 68 fps, it would be no use to me.  Looks like you saved me some more money!

Happy to help mate. If you want a true G-Sync, talk to Ian, he has one and he knows what he is talking about.

I do think this G-Sync "lable" is a mine field for people to understand. It also is down to brand etc...and far from it being a "real" G-Sync screen in most casers.

Look at the price of this 32" With G-Sync "ultimate" I think Ian Screen was around £1500 so a good one comes at a price.

Will look when home, but basicly you dont have a G-Sync screen and nor do I. 🙂 When it comes to flight simming. But will have a look at them setting and post for you tonight.

My screen has Latency modes so its a mine field..but later..

you don't need a G-Sync monitor , Freesync is all you need.

still if you want to know more there's plenty of articles out there, Hardware unboxed do some great stuff on Monitors

Why would he lower his refresh to 60hz if its 165? That's the reason he bought the monitor. My monitor is 165hz and I have mine locked at 30. My fps never goes below 50 and my fps counter is always green

It's a bit of a minefield though isn't it?  I have heard some Freesync monitors will work with NVidia, and some will not.

you want g-sync ultimate or G-sync.
try and avoid gsync compatible ones, as they do not support from 1hz. And trust me, when they drop below the VRR, (whether that’s 48 or 44 etc) you will notice it.

And if you have g-sync running properly, they’re is no need to cap frames low. Sure cap them 5fps below what you can achieve if you want to eliminate any stutter from running higher settings. But you shouldn’t really be capping at 30fps. More along the lines of 45-60fps. Either that or reduce some settings if you’re stressing your system and causing stuttering…

Mine is 240Hz. I love 240Hz and wish I could keep it at that, but.....with MSFS its a bad mistake to make. School boy error frankly. Unless I can run 120FPS or 80 FPS.

I can run +80 FPS with the FI Spit and could keep my 240HZ then..but.....no! I enjoy my 240Hz out side of MSFS with other games etc.

I stand corected Ian, I thought mine was 68, it must of been 48, I know you also looked it up also. But yer.....120Hz and 1/3 is perfect for my TrackIR and MSFS.

I cannot be bothered to go look it up my screen again 🙂 its to high thats for sure.

I still use RTSS and set that 2-4 FPS higher then the V-Sync so my FPS dont go mental in the menus.

I get stutters when at the ramp as well, as soon as I've lifted off it becomes so much more smooth. It's really weird.

I bought my Acer Predator X34A 3440x1440 100 Hz IPS G-Sync about 3 or 4 years ago, it was about €1000 - €1100 at the time. It's a really great monitor, but at 100 Hz there is some shimmering in the top left corner, so I'm running it at 90 Hz. The shimmering is almost not noticeable in games.
But I do believe it's true G-Sync, it was launched before they expanded the term to cover a lot of Freesync monitors.

It's super smooth and zero screen tearing when I'm in the air. But sometimes when I'm at the ramp it will stutter when looking in certain directions. It still doesn't screen tear though, even if it's sub 30 fps. In the air it's usually around 60-80 fps.

I have not locked any frames in game, and also no V-Sync on. Only G-Sync on in Nvidia Control Panel, and 90 Hz.

I have no idea how to set up a real G-Sync screen but if you have one then listen to Ian.

Mine just has a sticker in the corner and its worth nothing to me but it was not why I bought mine as i had done my homework first luckily !
