Orbx Alaska Mesh released

Sorry to resurrect this blast from the past, but I am curious how this mesh has held up.

One thing that worries me about spending money in this sim for things like mesh is that it isn't like FSX where everything will static for a decade.

Also do these meshes fix airports that have weird bumps on the runways or taxiways?

No.

No.

No.

It’s been updated. I checked the ORBX site today and it offered an update to Alaska Mesh.

I just checked and d/l the  Orbx Alaska mesh and it is still the same version as original.  1.1.0

I didn't see anything about an update.   ??

My bad, it might have been their Iceland Mesh.

Even with Orbx mesh in Alaska I see extremely poor looking mountains and really slowloading textures.

It's broken, by SU9 and is in the process of being fixed.

The very long process apparently.

Getting right fed up with Orbx and their tardy approach to fixing their products.  I also find it pretty poor form that they continue to sell products that are broken.

By the time they fix it it'll be broken with SU10...!

Yeah I know. I bought kcrw. An airport known for its elongated lighting pier. Yet they neglected to do the lighting on it. I reported it. But they don’t seem in a hurry. Other than that it’s very nice. Though that’s a pretty massive omission

My reason to get the AS mesh is purely for the scenery of PAJN. If anybody knows how to disable all but the airport, I'd be happy to go that route...

I expect that you must be an expert in repairing the damage done to all addon mesh products, without notice, by SU9 and that you would have been able to produce the fixes much more quickly.
Otherwise, you may have no idea how much work is required, nor how many people may be working on it, nor their personal circumstances.

None of which is of any concern to the end user.

Any company making addons for this platform knows their product may be broken by any sim update. This is hardly new news  If they don't have the capability/manpower to fix the products in a timely manner then perhaps they shouldn't be selling them in the first place.    Lets not pretend it's just the Meshes either, Cityscapes and Airports also take an age to get fixed.   I think I was 3 months for the Sydney cityscape, and we're almost at 3 months for the Alaska and Asia meshes.

Individual developers circumstances (Ukraine based devs for example) for sure play a part in these things, but these products are being sold under the Orbx banner, not just being sold through their store. If Orbx don't have a plan in place to implement quicker fixes when things get broken on products carrying their name then that's just poor business practice.  When I couldn't work for several months due to medical reasons I had to sub-contract out my upcoming jobs and any fixes required to previous work at a large loss to my finances.  It's called running a business. I had planned ahead for "unforeseen circumstances" and kept a loyal customer base thanks to that.

Extreme circumstances for delays are forgivable though, but it's a growing trend with Orbx.  What isn't forgivable is still offering these products for sale whilst they are broken  That is completely unacceptable, but feel free to try and justify that dodgy practice....

New Zealand and Iceland are the only meshes updated at the moment.  While companies like Orbx and Carenado do have their shortcomings, they do release generally good products, and updates to the sim tend to break them occasionally.  When this happens and they have an extensive back catalogue, things can take more time than us impatient customers like.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Indeed, but I don't feel having a moan after two and a half+ months is being impatient personally. Your tolerance level may be higher than mine 😉

And surely there are laws against selling knowingly broken products?  I don't see that as a shortcoming, I see it as a very dodgy practice which reflects very poorly on a once great company.
