September 3, 20214 yr The sim looks beautiful up close but awful with distant mountains (even on the loading screen, the screenshots look like a mush to be honest in the distance) I have terrain LOD 4.0 set, any more and I get unacceptable stuttering on the ground. Is there a way to improve this situation? All my textures are on Ultra. Any other workarounds or is it just something we have to live with? I'm surprised it's not talked about more, how great close things look and how godawful far away things are blurred. Edited September 3, 20214 yr by Langeveldt

September 3, 20214 yr Increasing LODs in the UserCFG.opt helps quite a bit, if your hardare can handle it. In you case this seems that your hardware doesn't. In my perception also the distance looks realistic. the distance is always blurry, here you can compare to what you should expect: https://bit.ly/3sXRUev

Luckily, I look out into hills and mountains from my office window and can easily confirm that hills in the distance are indeed "fuzzy" at least to my eyes. LOD=3 gives me an adequate representation in the sim.. Bert

It could also be due to my horrible 10 up 10 down internet maybe? It still loads close up stuff fine though. I'm not raging about the sim as it's still beautiful enough to fly in, but I'd just love distant things to be a little more crisp. I have a 5700XT and a decent rig with frames locked at 30 and scaling at 150, 1080p. I took this near FAGG a little while ago, and inthe sim I'd get the middle cluster of mountans looking like the mushy top of a cappucino even with LOD on 4.0 I imagine if there was an easy workaround i'd have been told it by now. September 3, 20214 yr I have 20:20 perfect vision, and I fully agree, distant mountains and scenery in 4k are blurry, at least on my rig. However, prior to SU5, they were not as blurry.

Increasing Render Scaling will help some, as well as using the Sharpness control in NV Control Panel. I think it's pretty good in that way into the distance I can still see considerable detail in mountainous areas. September 3, 20214 yr I'm at LOD 3.5, everything else Ultra, 750/500 internet, and sometimes the mountains in the distance are blurry as well. But I have a feeling that it varies from day to day, almost like it's something to do with the servers. With regards to the stuttering on the ground, it happens a bit with me as well. But as soon as I'm wheel's up it disappears. It has to be a sim issue. Yes there is a way, but it is trail and error to find out what works for you hardware. With SU5 my sim was a blurry mess. Only after hotfix 2 was I able to see sharp distant textures by having terrain LOD at 5. However, I recently re-installed MSFS after I screwed up a graphics driver change. Apart from changing the graphics settings to Ultra (as it was prior to the re-install), I changed nothing else - nothing in the Community folder, no changes to UserCfg.opt (both LOD settings in that file were left at 2) and no changes to the Nvidia control panel. My first flight was a revelation because I had sharp textures out to the distance with a Terrain LOD of 2! So in my case something wasn't right with my MSFS install. I have increased the Terrain Lod to 4 because I like to see buildings a bit further out as I fly exclusively low and slow, but Terrain LOD at 2 is sufficient for me to have sharp distant textures. Try different NVCP settings, but maybe re-install MSFS to see if something is wrong with the sim. The only blurriness I see is from some of the photos poorly taken, enlarged or taken through dirty windows. Distant mountains in MSFS should only be blurry depending on weather conditions, but the OP is not talking about weather.
