Warning about Sim Update on SimOuthouse

Important SU6 pre-update info! Avoid 100GB re-download

Microsoft noted today that SU6 is going to wipe out your 100GB-ish OneStore folder if you have MSFS installed in the default folder. However, I’m pretty sure you can avoid this if you chose that install path initially and you have room to temporarily have a second copy of the files until the update is finished.

I’d suggest that anyone who has their MSFS in the default directory make a new folder like D:\FlightSim, copy the OneStore and Community folders into it, and then point the SU6 update to that folder, to ensure that MSFS doesn’t have to redownload 100GB of files.

Steps:
1) Make a folder somewhere in the root of your drive to be the new folder for your OneStore and Community folders. Mine is F:\FlightSim
2) Copy (don’t Move, or you may end up redownloading if you launch the sim before the update hits) the OneStore and Community folders to the new folder you created
3) When you get the SU6 update and it asks you where to install its files, choose your new F:\FlightSim (or whatever) folder. Now it will only download the updated files instead of all 100GB
4) Once the install is complete and the sim starts up, you should be able to exit and delete the original OneStore/Community folders in the default location, to free up the space.

I haven’t tested this — don’t have the update, and won’t have time to get it until Wednesday — but given what MS said it should work:

Can’t copy or alter my community folder. Only add / delete.  NO copy.

My install sits on a dedicated nvme 1tb drive logical drive G.

There's always something to be worried about before each update.

I will be flying when the update rolls out tomorrow.  I will land, shut down, and then read the MSFS "notams" until the dust has settled.  I was stuck in Tulsa for three days this past week due to real time weather.  That is how I fly!  I can watch this one out!

This is highly misleading - according to the official forums this re-download only applies to beta testers where the installer clears beta code. Mods please lock.

I am quite relaxed as a delta tester, following Alpha, Beta, and tomorrow's Charlie testers.

Wild goose chase! I could not find the folder 'onestore', but I did find a folder called crypto! Hmmm

Not my quote just passing it along. I have always been afraid to even touch the One Store folder, knock on wood even just to change a default livery on AI planes.

Now they're going to reload the entire thing. Hope they don't mess up my JU-52s and other plane purchases from the store. They are all in there.

1.  I don't have anything in that folder.  I guess I'm good.

2.  Is E:\MSFS the default install directory?  I don't even know what the default dir is.  heh.

This is not accurate. The warning is only applicable to beta testers. It’s a standard update for everyone else.

We are getting Total  Hysteria and the update isn't even out yet.  😬

That OneStore folder does not exist on my end. Maybe because I am on the steam version.

Thanks anyways!

But you are the OP and haven’t  updated the thread title to be less misleading.

Would be a good idea to do so.
