Bad look of clouds

Featured Replies

I have a doubt, you, like me, still have the same bad appearance of clouds as of oil. I'm on version 1.20.6.0 and I still see the same horrible effect.

Why don't you post a screenshot of what you're seeing when you report these things. This can be a very subjective matter but overall the clouds look amazing in SU6. But it could also depend on a lot of things that may affect what you're seeing. Your settings, computer specs, display, etc. Even in the real world, sometimes clouds can look ugly and then certain ones can look pretty. They come in all different size and shapes.

That would be a cumulonimbus, or CB.  A towering cumulus, or TCU, will seldom spit out rain, much less hail.  And only a small fraction of CBs produce hail.

If you mean the grainy look of clouds, it is less visible with 'ultra' settings for clouds, but comes with a fps cost....

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

🤔...You just described my boss!

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

SU5 introduced changes to the render engine of MSFS, probably a different or compressed color palette than before. That leads to all sorts of more or less noticeable artefacts, depending on the lighting. In general, it's rasterized color gradients, purple fringes in the sky and at cloud edges and the painting like appearance of clouds.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much interest in better graphics (not so much better, but as good as before SU5 would suffice imho).

Here's a thread on the official forums to upvote if you care.

Clouds on ultra are definitely back to pre-SU5 standards, I saw it the second I climbed above an overcast on my first flight with SU6.

Not for me, definitely! I don't think there have been changes to the clouds other than the impact the changes to the render engine has. Maybe on some systems the bug where the ultra settings didn't stick were effecting the visuals, but that hasn't affected me. SU6 has made no difference on my system, and I can tell from screenshots all over the net that it's widespread.

Me neither. Clouds are ok ish but certainly not been as good as they were before su5.

Okay I wouldn't exclude that I suffer from selective memory, but without thinking they clouds would changes in SU6, I immediately noticed a difference on my first flight. Anyway I like them as they are, lightyears ahead from anything else.

Phil,

I can notice the mentioned issues in your screenshots, subtle in the lighting conditions, but definitely present. However, if that look is perfect to you, so be it!

no doubt there are some pixles but where I come from - FSX and little XP - this is just a huge step and great improvement, plus when actually flying = moving it is even looking better, those stills don't do that justice. but as said before, very subjective topic. I am happy what I get and see
