XP 12 Sneak Peek (Clouds)

What are we looking at for total storage size to install the entire world in maximum detail with ortho in XP?  I'm assuming this is not streamed from XP or some other servers, yes?

not sure anyone has counted.

continental US is here

The cloudless I linked you earlier is probably like 2 TB all in which is why I was considering streaming it for XP12.

Those are amazing shots really. Bing maps with 3D objects along with weather and realistic lighting. A nice upgrade to global mapping software. Very good for hopping on a plane for sightseeing.

But for people like me who want a realistic flight simulation along with decent simulation of the environment, XP11 does a great job. The great news is that in XP12, the 'simulation' is being elevated to a higher level along with realistic simulation of the environment.

Great times ahead for all of us to live in peace and happiness 😊

And yet it's already a lot more than a way to sight see, and it's only been out 1y4m or so.  I do most all of the setup in the 787-10 that I did in the PMDG NGXu, including tiller-driven ground steering, VNAV/LNAV to published procedures.  So it's really not as far as it might appear, and this is a slightly modded defaulty plane.  But it's certainly far less known than the other sims are, and the future isn't easy to predict.  I'm happy there is another viable sim in XP should MSFS die and early death, and anything is possible--though this is doubtful.  I think the next 3-4 months will be very telling for how dedicated MS/Asobo remains towards a more fully featured simulator.  All indicators suggest they are very much focused on this.  Much of their initial year was readying the sim enough for Xbox release which was huge for them and their financing of this project.  They've shown how to focus on very problematic issues and fix them quickly when they dedicate resources towards this.

Yes I'll bet no one has counted.  Orbx True Earth GB South comes in at a hefty 126GB installed, and it represents about 0.05% of the earth's total land mass.   Were that carried out for a whole world install at this level of detail you'd be right at a whopping 256Tb 🙃

yeah. But the UK is 100% developed.

You dont need (and mostly cant even get - even in ms) high res ortho for the deserts forests wastelands and mountain ranges etc that make up most of the rest of the world. If all you are doing is flying over them at 10000 feet lvl14 ortho is fine and also tiny.

Most of what I see in MS videos is only lvl14 even in the UK.

Biggest lie about ms streaming is that is the quality they offer. MS cant even do OrbX quality.

Think about it.

It takes like 2 hours to fly from glasgow to london, at which time you see the entire UK - all 126GB of OrbX. Doesnt matter how fast your internet is, there is no way anyone is downloading 126GB of data in two hours.

Keep telling yourself that!  I mean come on...just take another gander at what you posted from XP-11, and what I posted from MSFS.  I had all the Orbx regionals and they were pathetic by comparison to default MSFS.  You're persistent, I'll give you that.  Good luck and I hope XP-12 helps, and right now it would have to take a sudden collapse of MSFS to nudge me towards XP after seeing those.

If you can look at those sad images you posted and call that favorable

get VR, then you'll understand why this screenshot has 10 of millions of people thinking its the best game and graphics in the world

BeatSaber_Screenshot_03-750x430.png

Until then, you are just a someone watching CCTV cameras while everyone else is out drinking and flirting.

Why X-Check referred to MSFS graphics as "absolute garbage".

And also why volumetric clouds in X-Plane are so exciting

Not interested in VR myself.  But yes go back and look what you posted and tell me with a straight face you call that good compared to default MSFS.  And good luck with XP12 if those screenshots are truly representative you'll need some good luck!   In fact you had me intrigued until I saw those.  I think you're just trolling now so without further adieu... I bid you farewell 😉

Alternatively, your topic of conversation is quite old now

And Im not the one on an Xplane forum trying to convince a linux and mac user to go back to windows so he can spend $120 on a simulator that has been described as absolute garbage by a paid reviewer.

bye bye

I wonder what would have happened if I went to the MSFS forum and hijack a discussion to prove what I think x-plane is better at. I think both of us, this includes hypocrite mods around here, know what the outcome will be? Don't blame an x-plane user for enjoying x-plane and mostly don't call him a troll, since you are the odd one here, bye bye indeed!

Guess what: that happens regularly. But my impression is that the MSFS forum user base is a bit less fragile when it comes to debating the competing platforms. That might be based on a more objective approach to the topic - or not. Just my impression.

Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

Here's a little Dubai a bit ago:

I'm just being pedantic, but Dubai rarely looks this clear and bright... I've flown in and out of that airport many many times and it's always hazy, dusty and never that clear. If this was hazy it would look super realistic

Besides that, the autogen and airport looks spot on to me :-)

WOW!! That's daring - calling an X-Plane user in the X-Plane forum a troll. Nuff said.

Guys ... when will you finally understand it (*becoming desperate*)? When will it stop? You can show millions of screenshots of MSFS 2020 with orthos and photogrammetry et al (yelling "But watch!! How nice this looks!! And all over the world! You can't get better stuff anywhere! X-Plane doesn't offer that!").
X-Planer's are primarily interested in FLIGHT simulation, see here and not in a facade, even if it was made of gold. They want the complete house (with solid walls, kitchen, bedrooms, heating, bathroom, garden, ...), even if the outside look of the walls looked like stone.

Until now, I thought these haters are only ign orant, but meanwhile I have my doubts and think they are ####. How often it was explained, what I wrote above? Meanwhile I am under the impression, they are very frustated with their MSFS 2020, don't play it anymore and have too much time to annoy the users in this forum with their frustration.

When was the last time an x-plane user hijacked the MSFS section resulting in complete deviation of topics? Last one I saw was months ago, and a mod always came by to ask every body not to deviate, unlike here in the x-plane section which apparently has different rules?

Because as far as I'm aware, one of the golden rules here is to stick with the thread's purpose.

While I fully understand what people can like about this, yet am still not seeing you post any pics of how they actually look from ground level in many several conditions, I have MSFS and in too many conditions they just look horrible.

Paris at daybreak, live weather, stock sim, ten year old i73930k.

My apologies for flying through the Arc. Being an Englishman it was just too much to resist😃

I run in VR on a Quest 2 and it looks and performs very well indeed after SU6. The “it’s garbage” review is 11 months old?

Do you see @Ray Proudfoot ?

What I said will happen, just happened, surprise! People who come here from their MSFS section are not really interested in a discussion and having a hard time keeping it civil, this is is why Avsim rules should be enforced even in the x-plane section instead of pinning a post calling us all hostile.

@uwespeed and @mtaxp :

This is a lost cause. You can try to explain to the MSFS fans that you don´t care primarily about how things look, more about how things work... you will get a blank look on their face...and then they post more screenshots and videos 😆
