Kodiak 100 Tutorials with Missionary Bush Pilot

$49.97 LMAOL There is a sucker born each minute.

I have watched all of his videos on YouTube and found them to be very informative and entertaining.  I purchased the Kodiaq 100 and found the product to be authentic, so decided to watch his YouTube channel again so I could fly the Kodiaq accurately.

I saw he released his training course for a fee.  I saw the course was laid out by category, so each subject was easy to find.  I weighed up the course cost against the time it would take to find information in his 100 plus free videos - for me the cost was acceptable

I bought it and decided to ask for a refund which was promptly given by Ryan. My course progresses to the 10% point. I believe the refund is good up to 20%. I may consider it again.

What was the issue. I'd love a you opinion of the tutorial and why it didn't meet your standards.

After reading their site, a big HELL No (and I'm a Protestant who went to a very strict Catholic boys boarding school).

My immediate family was Protestant but my Grandmother was Catholic. I don't want to bring religion into this, I just see kids starving and in need of medical care. I starve myself but lack of medical care (which I fortunately have)  touches me when I see other suffering because of lack of it. I don't care if they are aliens, I don't like seeing people without medical supplies. I just want to know if some of the cost of the tutorial goes to the children and I would like to see some sort of proof. Now this was mentioned in the youtube comments and if so I may be a taker at $50 provided its genuinely for a good cause.

I was still setting up the controls for the honeycomb yoke and throttle and hardly spent much time flying the Kodiak. I may try it again after some flights and if they are for short take off and landings. As mentioned above $25 fee would be better as I’d likely kept the course.

I agree. $25 for the tutorial and would be willing to spend $50 if its for charity. But It should be mentioned in the link or his advertisement that some of the funds goes to charity as someone on youtube is claiming. Communication is very important and removes a lot of ambiguarities and mis-understandings that then lead to arguements.

The guy has over 100 videos on youtube. What am I getting with this tutorial that I can' get from the ones he has already posted?

His videos don't teach you how to fly the Kodiak. So it'd be a very indirect and longer process where you wouldn't learn the "how" or "why" with the viewer having to make assumptions based on their current knowledge.

It is well outside of my budget though, so I too will stick to the entertaining vlogs.

I think missionaries have done the most harm in every place they have been.

You were glad that he does not preach in his videos but then you started doing some "preaching" of your own........

Suggesting that he's doing harm has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I'm pretty sure you don't know the guy so just keep it moving next time.

I purchased the training course after buying the Kodiak a few days ago.  Great airplane and I see it becoming my favorite in MSFS.  I really was not used to the airplane, especially the G1000 so I took a chance on it.  I think he does offer a refund if you are only 10% through and find it's not what you expected.  I thought it was pretty good.  It is not anything like the Airline2Sim courses that were professionally produced, edited and put together. This appears to be segments from his YouTube videos that he put into a curriculum of sorts. (I have never seen his YT videos so not 100% sure on this).  He does do a few sessions from a sim at his company base to clarify some things, They probably could have been edited a bit more and cleaned up some for the course (not sure if mounting a camera on the yoke is the best idea) but overall I am happy with it and will probably go through it a second time. After going through it, I do tend to agree that maybe $20-$25 would be make more sense.  It's sometimes hard to pay more for a training course than the aircraft itself!  I see where he is coming from as he would charge $50/hour as a CFI but just thinking from a sales perspective it may have been better for him. Since I have never watched his YT videos, I cannot say whether you would get the same information by searching though his posted videos.

An announcement for this course on a Dutch FS-site says this: "Proceeds from the sale of this course will go to charity. For example for a school in one of the villages in Papua New Guinea where this pilot flies a lot." Don't know what the source for that info is though. If I owned the Kodiak I might go for this but since I don't own it yet... 😉 Giving something for charity and getting something in return isn't bad imho (as long as you support that charity, of course).

Since I have been watching his videos, I have flown about a half dozen flights in New Guinea, I am using the Piper Seminole, and the scenery  in MSFS in that area is excellent.

I had a look at his website and read almost everything published on it, including the legal stuff. I also watched his trailer, where he promoted his video. There is no mentioning of charity on his site (which he calls "the school") or on the video.

I am considering buying it, but I need to have a go in the Kodiak first.  I have had no time to try it since I bought it.

The way I see it, I only look at the price and if it is worth it.  What the guy does with his money afterwards is up to him.
He could just take the money and donate a proportion anyway, without anyone knowing.  Sometimes that is the best way.

I donate part of my income to various cancer and orphanage charities as they are personal to me, but I don't tell people where it goes when I get paid; it is my business.
Sometimes it is better this way, as these days people can be easily triggered over just about anything, as we all know.
