FP, same vicious circle here but I figured it out.

Click on the update message shown on the sim and it will take you to your account page.

On the bottom left of the page, click on Library.

this will take you to the page where you can see the big green update icon.

Click on that and it will download and install the update.

Adding: that after the store update and you start the sim- it will have you download a 716mb update then you'll be good to go.

When i clicked the play button in the store after that update, you should be prompted to update when the sim starts.

There will also be two updates in the content manager for those with the Deluxe Upgrade 1.26 gigs and Premium Upgrade 1.13 gigs.

Nooch, thank you for your helpfullness.  Just please understand that it is just not that simple.  I just spent over an hour of hair pulling frustration, and it has happened before with updates.  This is Microsoft Store version.  First, starting the game and having it check for updates brings up a mandatory update prompt.  Answering that update prompt takes me to the Microsoft Store, NOT to xBox.  So first and foremost Microsoft/Asobo needs to fix that immediately!

Ok. So when that does not work I follow the instructions on the FS Insider message and try the xBox Insider app.  That is a specific instruction in print from MS/Asobo.  There is nothing there for me even related to MSFS.  So I go to the xBox app (different app).  Still nothing.  Shows me I purchased MSFS but shows nothing about an update.  Click on the product there and it starts MSFS again.  Again Mandatory Update.  Sent me back to the MS Store and nothing about my personal history is there.  Just Icons of hundreds of apps and games to purchase.

So I sign out of everything I can find to sign out of.  Reboot my system.  Start all over again.  This time starting with the xBox app.  Still no sign of any update for MSFS.  Only "Play" MSFS.  Back into loop.  Finally about the fourth or fifth time I went in and out of both xBox and MS Store again, starting the game finally started the update.  And there was ZERO indication that was about to happen.  All just frustrating trial and error.

It is not that simple and needs major overhaul.  It is well past MTBO.

Once you get to the store there is a blue button in the upper right hand corner I believe that says Get Updates.   You have to click that when you get to the store.

It is counterintuitive because you don't see MSFS in the list with the Get Updates button but once you click that button the MSFS download and update should begin.  I read that button as Get Updates for all those applications you see in the list but it's not...  Try clicking on it and seeing if MSFS updates

Yes, go Steam version!

External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

Is this the public update that the beta users have been using for the past few weeks? Is there a list of changes, fixes?

I was on the beta.  I forgot about the process for turning it off and I just started MSFS from it's desktop icon. After the initial screen it said there was an update available (small - about 500kb - can't remember exactly).

It did it and went through to the main menu.   I haven't turned off the beta though from the xbox app, so I hope I don't end up paying for my mistake!  I guess I will know on my second start up.

EDIT:  Just did a second fresh restart just to check, all seems good!  I don't have to reinstall again thank mercy:smile:

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

Generally yes, this apparently is the result of the public Beta process and the download is likely the same as the "final" Beta version.

There is a link that shows up during the download that takes you to the release notes.

Did the same. Got that tiny update and MSFS just started fine. Closed it. Opted out of the beta using Xbox insider hub. Then got the update via ms store. Launched MSFS and now downloading some 600mb while we talk. Don’t expect any issues

No! No such thing was there.  I am updated now. Please, no more simple answer responses.

MS Store, Library.  Zero updates.  Signed out.  Signed in.  No updates listed.  Nothing.  This obviously is another one of those "not the same for all" situations.

I was actually trying to help with what worked for me so how did you fix it then if all the suggestions were too simple?  What was the complicated fix?  Sorry for trying to help you, noted for your next rant.
