MS Store, Library.  Zero updates.  Signed out.  Signed in.  No updates listed.  Nothing.  This obviously is another one of those "not the same for all" situations.

Weird update for me today…got update message, automatically sent to MS store and landed at the home page. Went to library, then FS, and there were two options,I think play was one in blue, and update was greyed out or maybe just white. I clicked on update and the Xbox app immediately opened and I got the update from there.

I was actually trying to help with what worked for me so how did you fix it then if all the suggestions were too simple?  What was the complicated fix?  Sorry for trying to help you, noted for your next rant.

Finally after about 4 loops it just happened.  No idea why.  There never was any update link.  Just the usual Icons to start MSFS, I guess for those who start it from the MS Store or xBox app.

Apologize that you felt a rant!  It is frustrating when it is not working at all to keep being told it is simple and that something is being missed or overlooked that is just not there.  If I was adept at capturing video I perhaps could have done so, but I am not!

My big debrief on this is that when the checking updates advises of a mandatory update, clicking to do so should take you where you need to go.  It did not.  It took me to the glitz side of the Microsoft Store as if I had gone there to make a purchase of any app they offer.  At the very least checking updates should send users to where they actually need to go.

The instructions yesterday for leaving the beta, posted at https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/version-1-21-18-0-current-beta-build-to-go-live-january-6th-at-8-00am-pt/487227, also did not take me to where I could do that.  I was immersed in a different loop for perhaps half as long as I spent today.

I really should switch over to the Steam version.....  This is happening 50% of the time.  The other 50% has been fine.

Yep, just finishing the full install of the sim.. Never again going to participate in any beta nonsense.. Lesson learned.

I'm using Steam,. Steam informed me to disable the beta at the Steam Library. Loaded MSFS and did about a 10 sec update and all is well.

yep same here.  I pre-ordered from the MS Store before release but decided to cancel it and went with steam.  I've never had an issue on any update, its defo the way to go.

Steam ecosystem is awesome and although I haven't had any issues with MS store/xbox app, I should have bought ms2020 from steam.

Windows 11 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Asus Prime Z690 | i7 12700KF HT | DeepCool LS520 SE | MSI 5070 Ti Ventus OC | 64GB G.Skill XMP II | Lian Li 216 LANCOOL RGB | TrackIr v5 | Honeycomb Alfa - Bravo - Charlie | MSFS 2024 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Curved 27" MSI | JBL Quantum 810

For me (Store version) it was really automatic.

I have Xbox app auto launch on startup.

And it automatically updated the FS2020 app informed me it was updated and asked if I wanted to launch it, I did.

FS2020 started up and did a 740MB update.

I flew the F16 and the Discus glider using Navigraph, IR tracking and AirManager. Everything worked perfectly on my 4 screen setup. Including live WX. Everything had worked perfectly before and I was not using the beta.

So all good here no complaints, love this sim. Best ever IMHO.

It really should be: Launching Sim > update available > download update and install > done.
I don't understand M$ update strategy at all, sometimes update through the sim, sometimes store first and update from there etc...
It should be just plain and simple.

I ran into the same thing...I didn't allow MSFS to complete the 100+GB download. Fortunately I had a recent backup of the entire sim directory, so after some zipping, copying, unzipping, to replace the entire contents of the OneStore folder (also the Community folder) that was wiped out by this unbelievably complicated update process I was back in business. I started MSFS and now it showed it only needed 500MB DL, so 10 minutes later I was loaded into the sim and sitting at the gate.

I am convinced that after leaving the beta in Xbox Insider App I should NOT have gone to the store and updated, rather I should have started MSFS and let it update after leaving the beta.

Microsoft Store, Library, Update All

Start MSFS.

Job done.

I feel bad for all those that have so many issues with updates. I did exactly the same with the exception of checking windows updates first, rebooting then updating from the store. Once the sim loaded I did the updates from the content manager and that was it.
