Did Asobo really not fix the map mouse issue? Really?

You can turn the world map with the mouse -- was that the issue? Can't remember for sure now.

But you can see where it is going to install. When selecting the update, alongside the update button is the installation path - which you can change. Seems for many, and in particular, for MS Store versions, this path can reset to default. In that case you must correct the path before hitting update or face a complete reinstall (and duplication). That in itself sounds like one huge CTD waiting to happen on every flight. Imagine the mess in the Windows Registry with double entries all over the place. That kind of mess would have my OCD hitting format C:\

"Bingo"

I think this is what is happing to some users here.

After opting out of the beta, I also noticed the sim wanted to do a full install, but I noticed the path was reset to the default location.  I just hit the browse button and redirected it where my MSFS files were located and that was it. NO Re-install required.

oh man!! This is messed up for me!

I have a 500 GB SSD specifically for MSFS2020 - original install plus addons came to 231 GB.... after update ballooned out to 470GB!!! Have no idea why as other updates were fine.... so had to bite the bullet and uninstall the whole thing and start again.... good grief this is ridiculous.... maybe user error as others have no issues but im thinking it installed the whole game again on the same drive but under another directory... very messy....

That is because the update did not delete the sim, though you might have thought it did.

It is essential to know the drive and path where your sim is currently installed before you launch the update. When you run the sim after an update, you need to look closely at the path that the installer wants to use before you press the update button. If it says that you need 150 GB, it indicates that the installer is not pointing at the correct location where your OneStore and Community folders are actually installed. If this happens, you need to press the “browse” button to point the installer at the correct location before you start the actual update.

On my own system, the installer always remembers the correct install location, but in some cases this does not happen - I have no idea why.

What has happened in your case is that the sim has downloaded a a complete second copy of MSFS in addition to what you already had, which is why your dedicated drive now has half the space it did before.

That all makes perfect sense... thanks for the explanation... mew thinks ill be  a tad more cautious going forward with this...

Thanks agin

I don't understand all the issues. I opened MSFS like I do every day, only this time it told me there was an update, so I updated it - in the sim, and then boom -- good to go. I never had to mess with microsoft store or xbox app.

Same for me here. Including last update (Su7) no hassle with the store or xbox app. Got the notification in MSFS about the update and updated it in the sim.

For me in this case about 740 MB. Because I did expect the update, before starting the sim I diabled all 3rd Party addons (except Navigraph) with the addon linker. Addon Linker is a great app, no need to rename/move or whats ever the community folder.

I have the standard edition MSFS from MS Store. MSFS is installed on a seperate drive (Official and Community Folder).

Best regards

Detlef

In my case, the update also pointed to the default location instead of my actual location, happy enough I was aware thanks to avsim comments and changed it. Went through smoothly, but all my graphic settings were defaulted as well. Not a big issue though, at least controller sensitivity and assignments as well as assistance options did stick. But gosh, it took me some clicking until I found my way out of the beta channel, somehow this XBOX App / Insider Hub App stuff is not really userfriendly...

I made all wrong, forget my community folder to empty, forget to restore changed files at the TBM930, and don´t delete my cache.

Update was made in 10 Minutes and everything is running after I rechange the TBM-Files (Steering and warning-sounds).

No beta here.

Best update so far. 👍

I feel bad for all those that have so many issues with updates. I did exactly the same with the exception of checking windows updates first, rebooting then updating from the store. Once the sim loaded I did the updates from the content manager and that was it.

I had been running the public beta, and yes it was a bit tricky at first, although ultimately it has worked absolutely fine.

What I did was to initially go to XBox Insider app and leave the Insider group beta 'the flight' as they confusingly call it. Then I went to the Store and downloaded the update (1.7Gb?). When I first re-started MSFS it kept taking me back to the store. So I signed out of Xbox and the Store and rebooted. I then signed back into Xbox app, and the MS Store. When I started MSFS again it did load this time, until it got to checking updates. Then it presented me with the full update 115Gb onto my C drive. I did not panic and saw another user who had had the same issue. All you do is point the installer back to your actual installation location (provided it was not the default location of course) and it all installed fine - maybe another 500k update think.

I am not a novice on PCs and computers generally, as I am in IT myself and have a Masters in the subject, but MSFS is not for rookies or those of a nervous disposition. It should come with a health warning. Having said that it is far from the first sim to cause me problems. Luckily I still have some hair left for the next time.

Lesson: ensure you do things correctly to the letter, never blindly obey the on-screen information, and if in doubt read these forums first before committing to anything.

Don’t expect any issues

that was too early, the dreaded reinstall bug bit me, maybe I did not look out for my installation folder on my separate SSD but MSFS installed from scratch, could stop it when I realized that all content manager content was to be downloaded (again), deinstalled MSFS again, rebooted, installed MSFS again, pointed it to my existing MSFS data folder and was done in 5 mins, flying now ESSB-EDDH in the FBW

Had to change my installation folder from drive C to drive F where the bulk of my sim is installed as well. I opted out of the beta first waited a while and then opened the store which had the update available for download.

Beta here, opted out of preview, update was quite small and smooth, no full installation necessary.

People must have broken Windows / MS Store / MSFS installations or some conflict with 3rd party software. I don't use my PC for anything other than flying so that's maybe why I never have issues.

I only use my PC for MSFS 2020 as well, that is it's sole purpose, although I did install Davinci Resolve last year so I could edit my drone video.

I did a flight last night in the TBM 930 and then the A32NX with my usual addons and all was fine. The only thing I realized now I did not do is delete the cache but I don't use it anyway.

Hopefully everyone that is having issues gets things figured. I gotta say I love X-Plane's attitude to installation, never had any worries about an upgrade, simply back up the entire folder and if anything goes south delete the entire installation and restore the backup, I even had a 2nd installation that I tested out upgrades/addons before including them in my main installation.

Man I wish we could have that in MSFS 2020 !
