I don't understand all the issues. I opened MSFS like I do every day, only this time it told me there was an update, so I updated it - in the sim, and then boom -- good to go. I never had to mess with microsoft store or xbox app.

People must have broken Windows / MS Store / MSFS installations or some conflict with 3rd party software. I don't use my PC for anything other than flying so that's maybe why I never have issues.

For me too. Did you sign up for beta? I did. After leaving beta I got 150G update as well.

Did you rename or remove the community folder?

It was clearly stated that if you joined the beta, there was the possibility of having to reinstall the whole sim. I wonder what awaits me when I get home..LOL.. I really don't mind doing it again, it is what it is.

I’d moved my community and official folders to a different place on the same drive as advised by another user and it tried to do the same for me, so I immediately stopped the download and returned the folders to their original location and the update went through without any further download.

Ahh yes, this is one of the comments made. If you installed the community folder somewhere else other then default during the initial installation, then you won't have to reinstall the whole sim after beta, which is my case, so it seems that I won't have to reinstall after all.

Makes no sense at all but I completely believe you. Like many others I too got hit with having to do a complete reinstall. It’s still in flight so we’ll see how it all pans out in the end vis a vis retained settings, profiles, etc. 

Im a seasoned computer user. Been “simming” since the eighties. The process MS uses here is mind boggling. Other players, Steam, Origin, EA et al do much better. Shame on MS.

I am surprised at the number complaining about the beta as well, as you point out it was clearly stated if your installation was in the default path, there was a chance you may have to re-download the lot. i was happy to get the update a month early, and help if i could.

Yep indeed.... didn't read all the update guff...lesson learned... oh well...got hi speed internet so wont take long to do... never again though..

I always rename my community folder and let the updates reinstall another then rename back the old one... didn't work this time, maybe due to the beta... LOL

Ahhh... Get to reinstall the whole sim again. Always something with this game.

After four days without MSFS using the MS Store version, I gladly paid for the Steam version. It hurt at the time, but feels like a great purchase now!

oh man!! This is messed up for me!

I have a 500 GB SSD specifically for MSFS2020 - original install plus addons came to 231 GB.... after update ballooned out to 470GB!!! Have no idea why as other updates were fine.... so had to bite the bullet and uninstall the whole thing and start again.... good grief this is ridiculous.... maybe user error as others have no issues but im thinking it installed the whole game again on the same drive but under another directory... very messy....
