February 2, 20224 yr I have seen a lot of people mentioning DLSS and its implementation in MSFS. I've looked up what DLSS is and I have to admit, I'm a little confused how this could or will hopefully work in MSFS. If anyone can explain it to me, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
February 2, 20224 yr Simple answer is it takes an image from the game and then upscales it to a higher resolution. It can make a 1080p image look like 4K - so says marketing. 9950X3D, PNY 5090, 64GB DDR5 6000, MSI X870-P, GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 2TB NVMe, 3440x1440 AW3423DW gsync ultimate.

This is the whole thing behind DLSS: boost performance. But of course, DLSS higher quality modes dont use resolutions four times smaller that the output... You will be lowering the in game resolution giving you higher fps and letting DLSS upscale that image giving back close to 4k image quality. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. February 2, 20224 yr I would only use dlss if at 1080 or 1440. At 4k it can cause blurriness. But with better fps. At 4k it samples and image smaller than 4k then upscale that. 9950X3D, PNY 5090, 64GB DDR5 6000, MSI X870-P, GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 2TB NVMe, 3440x1440 AW3423DW gsync ultimate.
February 2, 20224 yr As I understand it (maybe wrong) you need an RTX 20 or RTX 30 series video card for DLSS. Here is a recent youtube video.... 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
February 3, 20224 yr Interesting news, I think I will wait upgrading my 2080Ti, if DLSS will work as well as they claim, I will not have to upgrade my GPU in the next few years. February 3, 20224 yr I think it's kind of meaningless for my hardware since the real limiter is the main thread. But perhaps DLSS will be better than NV DSR which I do use, or overall improve in image quality irrespective of resolution per se. If they do it right expect big FPS gain at the same or better picture quality (if your PC is not CPU-bound on MSFS)
February 3, 20224 yr DLSS usually gives a massive increase in FPS while still providing decent image quality. It is of greater benefit to 1440p or 4k users. In most games that use DLSS you get a choice of quality settings that you can apply to fine tune performance vs image quality. Intel Core i5-12600k, Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 128 Gigs.
February 3, 20224 yr To give you an idea of what (hopefully) can be expected from DLSS in Flight Sim I did some quick tests in Cyberpunk 2077 with various DLSS settings. Maximum quality settings with ray tracing on at 4k: DLSS off: 8 FPS DLSS Quality: 30 FPS DLSS Performance: 45 FPS DLSS Ultra Performance: 60 FPS My video card is a Nvidia RTX 2080 Super Other games give varying results but typically you can expect double the framerate or more. If you'd like to see a deep dive into DLSS here is a video from Digital Foundry: Wolfenstein Youngblood - Ray Tracing/VRS/DLSS in id Tech 6 - A Next-Gen Features Showcase? - YouTube Intel Core i5-12600k, Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 128 Gigs.

What is your experience with Cyberpunk? The video you linked shows some comparisons at this point: https://youtu.be/gpzFX4P1Jow?t=635 I have to say... I can hardly see a difference in quality... so I am really looking forward to wat DLSS can bring to MSFS...!!! What we should not forget however is the impact of the online part of MSFS has on performance. I sometimes get stutters due to loading (I suppose) and those obviously won't be solved by DLSS.
