My biggest complaint about MSFS: trees are too rounded

I don't understand the negative reaction to OP. Different strokes for different folks. Some people may not be systems enthusiasts and are more visual flyers.

OP, have a look at Bijan's tree pack to add a global variety of trees to your sim.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I have given Bijan's tree pack a look. It's richer in color and has more variety than REX trees. Somehow I still prefer the plain look of the REX mod which seems to be more natural. Bijan's trees are a bit, how should I say, too flashy and exagerated? I don't know. Maybe I should try it for better comparison.

With all due respect, there are no "helpful" responses to this post (including the ones not removed).  I'm not even sure how one would go about helping, when the OP is simply stating he/she (really) doesn't like the appearance of trees in the sim.  I didn't see the removed posts so have no opinion on their quality, but hopefully we are allowed to disagree on these forums.  I honestly thought the OP was being facetious when I read the thread title...

There may be various 3rd party applications that can change the appearance of the trees. I can't comment as I don't have MSFS.

The OP was expressing an opinion. There are no right or wrong opinions. Facts are different but we're not discussing facts but a person's opinion.

You can disagree about how you perceive something. What you should not do is tell someone their opinion is wrong. Opinions are subjective.

Thank you for the support for the expression of opinions. I understand different people have different focus on the sim. Some believe the aerodynamics, cockpit control, ATC etc to be the core parts of the sim which should receive top priority. That's completely reasonable and understandable. But that doesn't mean trees are not important. Nowadays Flight simulation is no longer just the realistic simulation of a certain plane, but also the world around it. I believe this is a tendency of flight simulation, and other simulations as well, and MSFS is exactly on that road. It's the creation of a world which is not restricted to just a vehicle.

My first flight sim is FS4, which didn't even have any trees. Maybe there were some, if we could call the sporadic straight lines "trees". Yet I still remember my excitement, which was even stronger than my feeling towards MSFS 2020. What I mean is the world is changing. Our desire for realism, aesthetics and immersion is growing. What's acceptable in the past is no longer so now.

There is also the Wooden Bucket Theory. The capacity of a bucket is determined by the shortest stave. A beautiful modern sim can be more easily hurt by an element that may not be noticed in the past at all.

Trees are important. Ive seen some great shots of urban areas/cities that look amazingly realistic except for the trees

that are rounded and often to big imo.

If it's down to this as the biggest complaint, we've clearly come a very long way 😉

I agree, many things are 'overdone' or not quite right when comes to the artistic implementation in the sim. Trees are one thing they do not look 'right'. Lightning and clouds are off as well!

Asobo treats the sim more like a game in some aspects, meaning 'oh lets create something that looks like a tree, rather then close to real as much as possible with todays tech.

The water on the other hand is spot on in my opinion.

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

Are the trees moving in the wind? I have seen a video with moving grass, but not the trees.

Alas, they are not moving in the wind Bob.

Seriously tho, trees are important. Seasons by Bijan, Henriks ships look great, and i think a 3rd party developer for trees would be

great also.🤓

Maybe Asobo can hire a tree pruner.. 😉

Yes trees move also in the wind, but it has to be a strong one before you see it.

Can I mention the words "vegetation draw distance" too?

An astonishingly beautiful sim with this huge flaw, and it really kills things for me.  For many people they don't even notice it.

For me, the two issues with trees is:

- they are overall always far too tall

- they are a bit homogenous

Had some 50-70 kts ground wind at ENAL today and the trees were literally swaying in the wind, first time I actually realized that, looked pretty impressive

Can't be missed with such winds 🙂
