New PC, first ever MSFS install & instant CTDs... Help :(

that's a bit low, Windows + chrome + a couple of process will eat 10GB already.

On top of that add some heavy scenery and a complex airliner

I fly the  DC6 over New York City, and have Chrome open at the same time, and have never had an issue with 16GBs.

Before you rip your system apart, look at the bug list from Asobo.  CTD is the #1 thing with fixes coming in the next patch.

I started having CTDs after the last update.  I get a CTD almost right away just like what you seem to have.  It hasn't hit everyone, but again it is worth noting that it is their #1 bug listed.

I'm not saying it couldn't be hardware obviously.  With a new system you never know.  Do you have any other games or demos to try?  I know MSFS is the only game that I have issues with so I'm convinced it is not my system.

I also have a 3070 and I think the processor is almost the same too which is interesting.

The one thing I have not tried is the beta update, which is supposed to have some of those CTD fixes.  I've been waiting for the official launch, but it might be worth a try.

Again, it could be hardware, but my guess is more likely you are running into similar issues as a couple of us (there's a couple threads in the past couple pages).

The CTDs they are still working on are random ones that occur once in awhile during a flight. Not crashes while trying to start the program every time. A software program does not cause a BSOD, period.

I have no other games, no. As soon as the PC arrived, I downloaded MSFS. Haven't even had the chance to install addons because I immediately ran into this issue. I was planning on running stress tests on the PC though (Prime95 etc) If they pass then I don't think it is my hardware either.

Would be a good idea to check your ram usage during the flight to see if it max out

I also want to note, that when I said BSOD, what I would see was in the top left corner of my screen, "You're PC ran into a problem and needs to restart :(", then it would restart on its own. I assumed this was a BSOD or maybe it is just a win 11 thing?

I do once in awhile, and it never comes close to maxing out, ( usually runs 65-75%) and I fly all over the world in MSFS. No stutters, no pauses, locked to 30 FPS, smooth as silk.

OP is getting BSOD. MSFS does not cause BSOD on a healthy system.  And according to the OP, it's a new system with freshly installed Windows.  CTDs are one thing, BSOD is another. It's very likely a hardware related issue if OP is getting BSOD.

I had the same issue and it turned out a “feature” was turned on in my BIOS. It had to do with the RAM but I can’t remember the name anymore. Maybe someone does? Either way, I checked it off and the CTD’s stopped.

I am flying right now in the DC6 over Connecticut, and it shows 79% Ram, with Chrome open.

Definitely points to a hardware or cooling issue as others have noted. If you can wait, take it back in and get them to troubleshoot under warranty.

If you want to troubleshoot yourself, here are a couple of things to try:

- Go into bios and load/save optimized defaults

- In Windows, ensure you've installed the latest Intel chipset drivers and also the latest cumulative Windows updates (some very specific performance / stability updates for the 12 series there)

- Do a clean Nvidia driver install and clear the shader cache using the Windows disk cleanup tool

- Install HW Monitor and check your CPU and GPU temps and voltage under load - see if you're able to run MSFS for an extended period

Good question to Seb would be what are the max PC memory constraints for MSFS . He will know and I trust him. 🙃

Probably XMP if it's Intel, or DOCP for AMD.

Probably XMP

Reading this thread from the beginning I was just about to suggest this, too. A vanilla PC not overclocked should not run into any such crash/BSOD/reboot. 16GB is probably enough, my 32 are hardly ever used by MSFS alone. But I would indeed reset the BIOS to defaults, look out for a bios update, too, and especially would set MEM specs in Bios to a bare minimum, something like default and not eben XMP or XMP2.0.

OP is getting BSOD's. Take a look at the crash dump with a free utilliuty like "who crashed" or something similar. Or look in the event viewer - it might give you a hint as to which component is causing the issue.

My bets are on the PSU and/or RAM setup.

Also, if you are going to run stress test - probably the best for simulator systems is OCCT - it stresses the system pretty much the way FS would - both memory and cpu interaction. Prime tests just work the cpu. I have seen many systems pass the P95 tests and fail the OCCT.

However, I don't think that's your issue - contact Amazon tech support also for sure - it is NOT MSFS causing BSOD;s.

This is weird.

I have 8 gigs of system Ram

So, by your calculation I'm running my PC on -2 Ram.

How does that work?
