Concorde release 30/3/22

Featured Replies

To Chris Low et al:

I actually purchased the Flightsim Labs Concorde when it first came out back in 2019 - and I indeed spent a lot of hours "studying" and trying to learn all  the systems needed to fly it somewhat realistically...

But in 2022, I would not buy an updated version of the Concorde.  I might, however, buy a real life supersonic passenger jet sim in the future where the new cockpit would certainly be as different as night and day from the Concorde...

Was it the old style gauges that put you off? Proper gauges as John Hutchinson (former Concorde pilot) called them, not these new poncy ones. 😉

Any new supersonic passenger aircraft will not be as beautiful as Concorde, it won’t fly as fast and it won’t have a droop nose. It might not even have reheats heaven forbid. In other words it will just become another bland aircraft albeit with a different shaped wing and little else to make it stand out in a crowd like Concorde did.

Concorde has become an aviation icon beloved by the British public. It retains a special place in our hearts just like the Mini and the Spice Girls. Well, okay, the Mini. 🤣

There will never be another aircraft like Concorde.

And the BAFTA for the best use of the word 'poncy' in a sentence goes to Ray Proudfoot!  Well done!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Any chance we can replace "Spice Girls" with "Beatles" ?

The Beatles wouldn’t have elicited a reaction. 🤣

You might need to explain what that is for the benefit of our American friends. 😁

I don't think I will say any more. I thought it was a bit risque when I posted it.

Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.

With all of the limitations / inconsistencies at it's present state that plague MFS FDM, in this particular case those pertaining to the modelling of delta wings, and in general to wings with any kind of sweep, like the incorrect calculation of the Center of Pressure that is moved the further forward the higher the sweep angle is, or those pertaining to Mach effects, I really think this is going to be a rather limited reprsentation of a Concorde in as far as flight dynamics go...

The FSX versions I have used in times of fs9 / fsx were as good as they could be, but the authors did have access to a set of coherent parameters and features that could help approaching what the aerodynamics of a Concorde are.

In X-Plane until XP11, probably solved by XP12, basic stuff like the variation of the moments of inertia with fuel distributions / consumption wasn't modelled, so, a Concorde in X-Plane up to v11 isn't any good either, I guess, unless some tricks are played in the background...

FlightGear, which is still probably the Master of Parametric FDMs there was a nice Concorde:

Concorde - FlightGear wiki

at least JSBSim allowed for a much more detailled representation of the aerodynamic characteristics of the real aircraft.

OTOH I read there's one comming for P3D... Now that's promissing flight dynamics-wise, and even systems-wise... Let's hope for the best on that version too.

But I bet it's going to become the most "Sexy Concorde" ever made available for a desktop flightsi, that is for sure !

A stressful time for you no doubt but hopefully they came through okay.

Did a little video of Concorde's interior yesterday, which can be viewed on Facebook by anybody without having to log in, it's the first post. Obviously this isn't Passenger Cabin Simulator, but I felt it might help to give a sense of the atmosphere on board Concorde. Custom sounds not added yet, and passengers were switched off so the surroundings can be more clearly seen;
