Study Level Default Aircraft

Jorg has mentioned a number of times his desire for a duplicate world. I'm betting there is a lot more in this for Microsoft than a flying game.

I don't care whether the circuit breakers work or not. Because I'm never going to pull them unless at first as a novelty. And neither does anyone else if they are honest.

Exactly, how many simmer are hard core?  The minority I would say.

I don't mean to offend any hardcore simmers (and apologies if I do), but I think some feel they are more 'significant' (for want of a better word) than they are in the world of simming (be that flight, motor racing or whatever). By that I mean that I mean some (I stress some) perhaps feel their personal or collective activity in the simming world is more influential or important than that of the mere 'casual' sim user. Hey, I don't know the breakdown of hardcore to semi-hardcore to casual but I wonder, if you split it into those three categories, which would be most missed in terms of sales of sims themselves if one was no longer catered for? Obviously, the likes of PMDG would suffer greatly as pretty much nobody would buy their products if hardcore simmers deserted MSFS for example, but would MSFS as a standalone product (i.e. ignoring anything non-flightsim related it may be helping develop in the future) survive without the semi-hardcore or casual simmers' money?

Like I say, no offence intended (I've certainly benefitted greatly from what I would describe as some hardcore simmers' input on these forums) and it's as much a rhetorical post as anything. But I do feel that Microsoft don't need to be devoting time and money on giving 'study level' aircraft to the masses when 3rd party devs are doing that for those with the money and time to spend on such things.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 64Gb (4x16GB) 3600 MHz; GPU:  MSI Radeon RX 5700XT [8GB]
SSD:  Corsair Force MP510 (for OS);  2x 1TB & 1x 2TB Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 (one for sim, two for addons)
HDD:  Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet

Fulcrum One Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA sidestick & throttle, Logitech Pro pedals, Xbox wireless gamepad (1st gen)

Don't count on "Study Level" if such a thing even exists. This is a game/sim not a level d simulator.

Think of the use of the term, I never study when flying a PC Flight Simulator. I think Microsoft is marketing to the entertainment crowd anyway.

Microsoft has better ways to make plenty of money off the game.

If others make good quality aircraft things will be fine.

I do believe Jorg knows where the money is. I'm hoping for more of his winsome bells and whistles like Reno races and Tante Ju. Historical flying boats, that sort of thing.

There are 3rd party guys to do all the study level addons. But I do wish everyone was buying them in the marketplace. Because that way the developers get a little less but MS makes more. The only thing I worry about is Microsoft not making money. Because when that stops, photogrammetry stops. The large battery of scenery servers will be turned to other uses instead of flight simulation.

The default aircraft in MSFS are some of the best ever included with a base flight sim imho.

I have quite a few hours flying the C 172 and C 152 in real life, and those aircraft in MSFS are pretty good in my opinion.

Seems like it would really make it hard for new players to jump in.  I consider myself a pretty serious simmer, but even I don't need every switch to work.  Back in the day I would really dive into a PMDG of similar plane, but now honestly simpler is fine for me.  Others want that complexity and that's fine.

"Study Level" seems to be a much abused term. MSFS default aircraft do not have to be study level, but they should function reasonably well. The tubeliners and corporate jets should have functioning FMCs for LNAV and VNAV. If not, do not include them in the sim at all as default aircraft. Some of the GA planes are quite good. The planes were advertised to be of high standard not mediocre default airplanes.

I remember something about the DC6 raked in more sales in 2 days than any other product for PMDG. These type of companies can profitably do all the high level simulation products instead of Microsoft.

I think you are misunderstanding the great thing about working cb's. They aren't there to be pulled: they are there to pop. To prevent serious problems. Working cb's in a plane without failures is a fun but useless gimmick imho (like in the Kodiak). I can't wait for the upcoming C130 in which it will be very important to keep an eye on the cb's if you like to get home in one piece. I don't really expect to pull cb's in the C130 but I do expect them to pop and give me a hard time. 😉

I think it's a great idea, in due time, after core features and SDK are maxed--and these study-level enhancements will demand the fully mature SDK, no?   After all,..so much of each plane is already in very decent shape.  Why not develop a core set of maybe 12 models and sell it as, 'MSFS Platinum HC" (hardcore!) addon thru the Marketplace for $49.  We'd all be jamming up the servers trying to get oru copy installed!

Oh, you can and you will. That's likely years away.

I think I just read someone arguing that Microsoft should sell 12 study-level aircraft for $49. 😂😂😂

Core features will *never* be maxed. There will always be room for improvement and evolution.

Mediocre is in the eye of the beholder.

There's still a bunch hardcore guys who won't touch MSFS because it is perceived as just a game. Imagine what will happen when MS has the sim with the reputation of having the best default planes on the market.

If you think the grumps who make up a large part of that population will suddenly come around to MSFS because the default planes improve, you're not nearly cynical enough. 🙂   It's not about the quality of the planes for many folks.  It's about years of investment in an existing platform, an unwillingness to change, and perhaps a bit of enjoyable snobbery scoffing at the "game" "built" for the Xbox and how it's not a "real" flight sim.

They'll come around when P3D stops updating and all the 3PDs have switched over to making products for MSFS, except for the ones who went out of business because they were too bitter or fossilized to evolve. And likely not a day sooner.

The people's flag is deepest red.
