World Updates are like the Moon Landing in that ...

When you go to the MS Store which you should do first, on the lower left of your screen right above "help" you will see your library ( looks like some books) click on that, and it will  take you to the update page. Upper  right hand corner, click on "get updates" and the X box app, and the Store and the Flight sim will all get updated. After that, start MSFS, and it will lead you the  rest of the way through the update.

My Microsoft Store Library did not show the update at noon EDT today, long after the update went live. And I am well aware of where to look. I went to the xBox app and found the update and proceeded. Update progress bar was front and center.  Took some time to complete.  No error message. The pop up advice after the process advised me what was updated.  However WU8 was not showing, either in Content Manager or in the Marketplace. I did find updates to a handful of aircraft models and to KLAX in Content Manager.

I exited and restarted MSFS.  Still no joy.  Exited and rebooted system.  Restarted MSFS.  Nothing indicated any update was still outstanding.  Into Content Manager, then into Marketplace.  Search in both for "World", then "World Update", then "Iberia".  Nothing!  WU8 was not showing.  Absolutely nothing!  All other previous World Updates were shown.

Exited MSFS.  Ate lunch.  Came back and worked on my finances for an hour.  Booted up MSFS, finally found World Update VIII in the Marketplace.  Almost three hours elapsed before it was there.

This is clearly not the same for each of us.  This next comment is not for you Bob, but for some others to be so patronizing as what has been posted in this topic is not in keeping with the spirit of Avsim.

On that Library page on the top right corner did you not see a blue button that said "Get updates".

I'm afraid not, there was no references to updates at all on any page on Ms Store despite the sim automatically directing me to it. I always forget the sim is linked to XBox since I do not own an XBox console or any other games yet the XBox app was the place which showed updates for the sim. . Nor do I use MS Store so unfamiliar with it and shouldn't need to navigate through various pages. No idea what went wrong this evening on the Store page though the same think happened on the last update and I had to Google what to do as again there was no update links to click.

Yeah, anyone reading this who hasn't gotten the sim yet, get it on Steam. It is a lot less of a headache.

Steam updates automatically without having to go through 2 different apps like Microsoft Store. Though sometimes you may need to restart Steam if it doesn't pop up, but that's uncommon.

Also switching from a Beta build to a live build won't nuke your installation. Just never hit 'verify file integrity' in the properties menu, that will nuke your installation.

You still need to download main updates through the sim itself, and it uses MS's servers, but still it's a lot less complicated than the MS Store.

I fail. Forgot to grab the Marketplace portion until I saw this thread. The updating process is insane.

All true. But here's the point: I know how to do Rubik's Cube. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Anyone can do it. It's just a matter of learning all the incremental steps you need to take along the way: Step #1, Step #2, Step #3, Step #4. My point is that updating MSFS shouldn't be a Rubik's Cube.

At 11:30 is the '15' puzzle I remember used to be sold at local toy stores. There are youtube videos of people trying to beat this 17 second solve from the Tonight Show.

Can you provide a link to these steps? I've felt completely reliant on the community when it comes to updating and surmounting the issues that sometimes arise.

World Updates are like the Moon Landing in that, once you finally get there, the view is spectacular. All the work is worth it. But in order to get there, you have to overcome unimaginably complicated technical issues. Today, with World Update 8, I started up MSFS. Then, I was sent to update the XBOX app, which, in turn, then updated a small number of files in MSFS. Then, after restarting MSFS, I was prompted to download additional files (but not a World Update). I was told by helpful members of this forum to then go to Content Manager, where updates were available to the first seven World Updates (but not World Update 8). World Update 8 was not listed among the available updates. Instead, I had to go to the Marketplace -- again thanks to helpful members of this forum -- and download World Update 8, which then sent me back to Content Manager to actually download the files. Again, the final results are breathtaking. I love MSFS. I wear my MSFS polo shirt in public all the time. But the updating process is a total Rube Goldberg contraption from beginning to end.

Geez, not here:   MS Store > Library > Get Updates.   Run MSFS, update downloads to completion.  Visit the Marketplace, install the downloaded World Update.  Done, zero drama, all's well.

If everyone possessed your expertise, there would be no problem at all with updates. But your high-level knowledge of the sim is the exception, rather than the rule. I'm willing to bet there are thousands of MSFS users who think they have World Update 8 but don't.

I agree it's not intuitive, but geez we're all the way up to World Update 8 now you would hope by now people would get all 3 steps involved committed to memory!   Sorry, it seems particularly bizarre when so many here have decades of tweaking and fiddling required to get the other sims running and maintained.

The point is you dont need any "high level knowledge"  These are the steps outlined by MS/Asobo for updating since the sim launched.

At one point it slightly changed in that we needed to download the Xbox app for it to work, but at no point have I needed to go anywhere near the Xbox app to update the sim.   The only time the Xbox app is involved is for the Betas.  If your not involved with the betas then updating the sim has been the same steps since day one.
