World Updates are like the Moon Landing in that ...

Featured Replies

World Updates are like the Moon Landing in that, once you finally get there, the view is spectacular. All the work is worth it. But in order to get there, you have to overcome unimaginably complicated technical issues. Today, with World Update 8, I started up MSFS. Then, I was sent to update the XBOX app, which, in turn, then updated a small number of files in MSFS. Then, after restarting MSFS, I was prompted to download additional files (but not a World Update). I was told by helpful members of this forum to then go to Content Manager, where updates were available to the first seven World Updates (but not World Update 8). World Update 8 was not listed among the available updates. Instead, I had to go to the Marketplace -- again thanks to helpful members of this forum -- and download World Update 8, which then sent me back to Content Manager to actually download the files. Again, the final results are breathtaking. I love MSFS. I wear my MSFS polo shirt in public all the time. But the updating process is a total Rube Goldberg contraption from beginning to end.

Does this mean conspiracy theorists suspect the World Updates might have been faked in a studio? 🤣

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I find the update process to be dead simple, once you understand the fairly simple logic behind it.

I had a few horror moments when Store decided to update itself during the MSFS update. Of course it restarted itself. But in the end, all is good and I got the WU 8 up and running.

I just updated MS Store and from there I started MSFS and  I followed directions. Easiest update yet.

Easy as pie with Steam;

  • auto downloads the initial files (small size)
  • load the sim and download the main file
  • go to content manager and download the updates
  • go to Marketplace and download the new WU

Ok the UI could be a bit more intuitive but it's not that bad, I did all the above in a matter of minutes whilst doing other things so it was no sweat.

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

it was like that with su7 already, i see no issues.

Come to think of it, if the world is round- why can't we fly to the north pole ?

Don't know what all the fuss is about.    Yes it's a pain to have to do it in 4 steps, but it's been the same 4 steps as long as I've used the sim (a year now i think)

Go to the MS store and grab the update from there.

Fire up the sim and do that update

Content manager

Marketplace

Fly!

Never failed yet.

I think people who have the MS Store version find they have the easiest updates. At least, I know it's always very simple for me.

All true. But here's the point: I know how to do Rubik's Cube. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Anyone can do it. It's just a matter of learning all the incremental steps you need to take along the way: Step #1, Step #2, Step #3, Step #4. My point is that updating MSFS shouldn't be a Rubik's Cube.

I started a Rubiks cube in 1989.... It's still unfinished...

Don't get me wrong but haven't you already done exactly those steps the past 8 world updates? There's nothing new about it.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

There are tons of videos on YouTube about solving it. Again, you just have to learn the small steps along the way. It truly has nothing to do with being smart. Here's the video I learned from: https://youtu.be/e5Jj14gS6TI
