Then don't use it and continue to use their website. Don't think their website is going anywhere.  The App is just another option. Its nice to have choices. You have to put some trust in the programs you use, otherwise, your computer will be very limited.

Been using the app since release. I have been using Simmarket for many years, with 102 orders dating back to 2008

WRONG.  The app is the only option now.  I like this PC limited...for FS.  Why are you offended because I don't trust a retailer to install software on my PC?

I purchased the P3Dv5 version of MK Studios EKVG Vagar (to get the P3Dv4.5 version), and I had to install the SimMarket app to download the software. It was incredibly easy to use, so I have no problem with it.

I am not offended at all. Don't know where you got that from. What you do to your PC is your business. All I was saying (in general) was that we all have to trust software to some point  or we would have nothing on our PC's including addons for our sims.

I can still go to the website and see all my orders and download them, as of right now, its still available.

Update:  Just checked again and my downloads need to be done by the app. So I guess we don't have a choice.

I don't think anyone is offended, except perhaps Simmarket. If you have any specific and verifiable information demonstrating that Simmarket is not a reputable and trustable company, your feedback would be of utmost help to everyone. Having been a client of theirs for close to twenty years now, I have yet to see a shred of evidence that this vendor is not worth my trust, but you probably have good reasons that you might want to share with your fellow simmers.

If you have none, perhaps it would be better not to spread false rumors publicly.

Let me know when you get to 100 purchases. 😀

I can let you know, I like it as you used to get emails of updates, now the program tells you, and I was surprised how many were updated without my knowledge

It is no different from the Orbx Direct program, there was butt-hurt when that first came out, and now people rave about it.

Its just change and lack of ability of users to adopt to change or like to whinge about it

It looks like a useful change. Previously I had no idea if my products were up to date. After installing the program it identified a few where an updated version is available.

Having all my purchases shown in a convenient fashion seems like a very good idea.

I don’t have a problem with using the app. This is nothing new - plenty of other vendors require a dedicated app to install or update content. FSDT, Contrail, ORBX, Flight1, FlightBeam, PMDG etc.

While the app works as such, SimMarket obviously only went halfway through their homework. ORBX, FSDT, or Contrail install (and update!) the addons directly into the simulator. This was what I expected when I first read about that app weeks ago and I confess I was disappointed to learn they still left that work to me.

That makes (at least) two of us. I don't understand the purpose of the app in its current rendition. Pointless to have the app and website doing basically the exact same thing.

Exactly. It's an app to download more apps. What problem was this app supposed to solve?

Being able to show you that updates are available for the products you have purchased. Otherwise you have to check manually.

SimMarket obviously only went halfway through their homework. ORBX, FSDT, or Contrail install (and update!) the addons directly into the simulator.

I think this might be due to the vast amount of products Simmarket has compared to everybody else, with vastly different installation and licensing methods.

Maybe their next step might be allowing install directly into the simulator those products that already used the Simmarket-own installer, but I don't think it would be very feasible for them to be able to install every possible product they have on sale supporting vastly different installation methods, there are just too many of them.

I like the initiative and welcome the option. However, in this case it's not an option, but a requirement of simply downloading software.

Personally I don't like the idea of having to execute software for the sole purpose of downloading software - and from someone, who I didn't actually purchase the intended downloaded software from. I don't know...

This could be compared to Flight1, which has a wrapper-software - but the wrapper, doesn't install software permantly and is only run to unwrap the original piece of software, which is to be installed.

FSDT, FlightBeam and PMDG (and Aerosoft) does use similar software to update their addons, however none of them require me to use set software simply to download their addons. It's simply a piece of software, which handles updates and can configure the addon externally. It is software which accompanies the addon you purchased and acts as configurator and updater. It's not a piece of software, which - in essence - is unrelated to your original purchase.

REX has a similar solution with their REX Download Manager - but you aren't forced to use their system! You still maintain the option of downloading their software manually by your own means. I guess my reservations about this move from SimMarket is, that they force you to use it.

Also - and this is purely my own reservation - I don't share the same trust in SimMarket as I do with PMDG, FlightBeam, Aerosoft etc... I don't know - maybe I'm being idiotic...

Anyway... that's my 2 cents.

Best regards,
