April 1, 20224 yr I was thinking yesterday, upon the release of the Concord, how many aircraft I have seen in the last year, that were the " I got to have this " aircraft of the day. First I recall was the Mooney, then the JF Arrow, then the Bell 47, then The DC6, etc. etc. For about a week or two after they were released, there were posts about that these aircraft were the best since sliced bread, and that is all people were flying. Then within a few weeks, they were never mentioned again. I remember all the posts about flying the Bell 145 for instance , and now, you never see any posts about anyone flying that copter. My question is, are people still flying these must have aircraft, or after the first few weeks and the novelty has worn off, are they sitting in the hard drive hangar in the sky, collecting dust? Just curious.
April 1, 20224 yr I think this thread https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/your-current-top-5-aircraft/507204/156 contradicts your impression. All those you mention are among the top 5 from several posters. Kind regards, Michael That is only 5 posts, I am sure that there are thousands and thousands more of each payware aircraft in the last year. That is what I was referring to.
April 1, 20224 yr Seems like every week now a "shiny new AC" comes out that is a "must" have ; I sit back and read all the reviews and then I might buy it .
April 1, 20224 yr I go through phases with the aircraft I fly. For a while I was in the bush/STOL phase and only flew the Kodiak, Twotter, C208 and one or two others. Sometimes I go through a vintage phase and only fly the DC-6, Connie etc. Right now I'm in an airliner/light twin phase with the FSW C414 and the FBW A32NX with the new VNAV features. There are quite a few aircraft I have that are collecting dust (mostly Carenado stuff) but I don't mind too much. This is my main hobby and I came to terms with the fact that I'd undoubtedly make some impulse purchases that I would regret/not use long ago. Former Child, Current Adult

That is what I do, I try to rotate every couple of weeks from one to the other. You can get rusty really quick if you don't fly something like the DC6 once in awhile.

I'm doing a tour of Chile/Argentina right now with my VA and I'm trying to figure out what aircraft I'm going to fly to Antarctica. I think I've settled on the DC-6. That is a flight that's going to take some planning. Former Child, Current Adult
April 1, 20224 yr I'm a one plane kind of guy so currently the Seneca and probably the 414 Chancellor next. If I want a new plane I'll usually get a new paint. ns AMD RYZEN 9 5900X 12 CORE CPU - ZOTAC RTX 3060Ti GPU - NZXT H510i ELITE CASE - EVO M.2 970 500GB DRIVE - 32GB XTREEM 4000 MEM - XPG GOLD 80+ 650 WATT PS - NZXT 280 HYBRID COOLER
April 1, 20224 yr I fly the Bell 47 very regularly and have since it was released. Other favorites like the DC-6, Kodiak and Twotter become part of my NeoFly stable and I hire AI pilots to fly jobs in them, often following me on my RTW flight so I can jump into them at my next destination should I desire. It's like having an entourage. 🙂 Other planes that I don't do that with are the Piaggio 149 which hasn't been updated to resolve functional issues that have crept in since release due to Asobo SU updated. April 1, 20224 yr I usually fly real life airliner routes, so for MSFS there's not much to say (still use the CRJ and of course the A32NX). That said, I still use the DC-6 every once in a while, just because it's head and shoulders above most other addons, from visuals to system modelling, and that creates some pretty unique (for MSFS) immersion. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

The JF Arrows and The Bell 47 are still the best in their respective categories for me. I've now (mostly 😉 ) stopped buying new aircraft on a whim.
April 1, 20224 yr I'm still on my Mooney. It's what I use to tour every country. The only other single engine land airplane that caught my attention was the Brsimdesign's Debonair 35 and that one was never mentioned in this forum. This always happen but what will also happen is that someone will ask, what are the best "must have" airplanes and the Kodiak, JF Arrow, and the FSW 414 will be on that list. I predict that the madness will resume after the MD80 is released. MSFS
April 1, 20224 yr I am still flying the JF Arrows, the PMDG DC-6 and also the MilViz PC-6. The only newer release that I have started to enjoy as much as those others is the FSW 414 Chancellor. It is definitely moving up into my top five. If MilViz ever finishes the Cessna 310 or the Beaver, then each of those will probably be in that list as well, in which case the PC-6 might bet bumped. But then again, if MilViz ever gets phase 2 out of the PC-6 then who knows. I know MilViz is dealing with other, more important issues, so I am not complaining. Just saying those are the ones I am really waiting on. I LOVE Beavers, and the MilViz Cessna 310 in P3D v4.5 was one of my favorite aircraft. April 1, 20224 yr The only plane I have ever bought, is the EA-7 Edgley Optica. I use it for sight seeing now and then. Mainly I fly with the FBW A32NX, DA-62X and Jplogistics C152 Tapani Österberg
April 1, 20224 yr Well, I realise mine is a minority PoV, but I like to air it occasionally <grin> I just checked and I have bought maybe 40 payware aircraft for MSFS, plus I converted a couple of dozen of my P3D planes, and I have quite a few freeware aircraft as well. I will have bursts of enthusiasm when I get a new aircraft, and sometimes that wears off, but given that I mostly make no attempt to learn how to fly them properly (there are occasions where I might spend a small amount of time learning some of the basics for a plane I particularly like) they are all equally likely to be dragged out of the hanger for whatever takes my fancy. So in my case, yes - they do still get used. Probably not in a way approved by many folk, but they all make me very happy to have. I even enjoy the likes of the Deimos stuff (I bought their Mig 29 and love it) But, with the exception of the DC6, I'll never spend money on anything that insists I learn how to fly it properly. If I can't ctrl-e it and get in the air without spending 20 minutes faffing around it doesn't belong in my world. Maybe one day I'll change my way of operating, but for the foreseeable - unlikely. Oh, and I still occasionally fire up XP, and even P3D, because I have favourite aircraft in those sims that I can't get (yet, hopefully) in MSFS. I'd guess my total hangar across all the sims I still have installed (including FSX) is around 500-600 different aircraft. I may care little for the mechanics of flying an aircraft, but I love the aesthetics and I love to see these things hurtling around in my private universe (nice song that, as well) I'm afraid I'm far too promiscuous to be a one-plane kind of guy! Think of me as a sort of Warren Beatty of aircraft <grin> Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used
