I absolutely love them both.  I do think the Fenix A320 has better ground operations (more automated and convenient) and the EFB is awesome.  This is a big win over the PMDG 737.  But I love the PMDG 737 and they are both a must have for me.

I am kinda leaning towards the Fenix first to be honest, I really love Airbuses. I might go have a beer and mull it over a bit more lol

Can you use an iPad to run the EFB? I saw in a few videos there's an external button on the cockpit EFB

OK Million Dollar question lol

Which do you prefer the Fenix A320 or PMDG 737? I am sitting on the fence, I love the FBW A320 (It is my go to airliner) and really love the look and complexity of the Fenix A320 but I miss a 737. I will probably end up with both I just cannot decide which will make it into my hanger first.

I'm going to give the edge to Fenix here and that's because of that magnificent EFB in combination with the FMS.

Initial impressions on the update:

Thats a very comprehensive list of changes for a first update! Performance seems better. Still stable 30 fps when locked, but it seems perhaps more fluid. Just finished a flight from Venice to Florence with payware airports in both ends. Florence with its PG and Orbx rendition of LIRQ can be quite demanding. But I was lucky to get stable 30fps for the whole flight.

The ability to be able to use the EFB in full screen on iOS is great. Just started using it on my iPad and I think it works better that way, more practical. I’ve hidden both captain and FO EFBs in the cockpit.

One question: is it “safe” to use Toolbar Pushback? Read about some performance issues using this. Their pre-planned pushback is excellent, and it’s just not very practical to manually pushback switching between external and internal views whilst trying to at the same time monitor engine startup…

No problem on my system, been using since initial release.

Is there a reason you don't want to use a SID or STAR? Apart from those airports that don't have any.

No that was my question, because if I don't put a sid and star in I get discontinuity's they I can't delete, like you can in other FMCss.

Do you use Simbrief to generate your flight plans then take them through the EFB to the MCDU via its 'Init' key?

I can't get the FP from the EFB, into the MCDU.

Does the MCDU look in a particular folder for the FP?

T45

I suggest you follow this video from 3:55 - It shows you the steps of how to import a simbrief flight plan into the EFB and onto the MCDU once you have created said plan on the simbrief website. There is no need to export the flight plan from simbrief.com onto your computer. As long as you have set your Simbrief Pilot ID or Username up in the EFB you should be able to import it.

Do you have to use a Sid and Star on each plan? When you load a plan do the engines have to be off, is another question.

No, even though Simbrief will usually create the plan with a SID/STAR it will not import to the MCDO.  Once you choose your runway you can pick one or leave it out altogether.  I don't think engines need to be off do do all of that stuff but I always start in Turnaround state.

I got everything set up. I will watch the videos, thanks.

If they are not off you have to go into Secondary Flightplan.

I don't see where the problem is in setting the Aircraft into turnaround state first before trying to setup a flightplan...

You pull your route in through the MCDU.  On the INIT page, hit the Init Request on the right and it will load in.  You will still have to enter your Flt #, Cost Index, Alt and add your SIDS/STARS but it pulls the rest of it in.  You can also hit 'Winds' and it will pull in the winds for your route.

I hit 'Init Request' but it doesn't get pulled in, although it shows up ok on the EFB.

After about a minute or so the orange 'star' reappears [now I come to think of it, there is a message at the bottom of the MCDU. I'll stop ignoring that & try & figure out what it means😀]

I'm mid-flight but I'll give this a go on my end without entering a SID/STAR as I haven't tested this without a SID/STAR being inputted to see If I get the same issue as you.

Thank you,

The EFB does look magnificent, in line with the rest of the aircraft really. How does it run on your system? It is not too dissimilar to mine right now. I lock my fps @30 in NVCP & VSYNC on and I get that pretty much everywhere in the FBW A320

My system now is, rebuilt by me: Ryzen 7 5800x, 32gb, 3070ti 8gb. No issue with frames.

 Ryzen 7 5800x, 64gb, 7900XTX 24gb

Is there a consensus on performance improvements?

I'm about to get my rig set back up and I cant wait to get the Fenix or PMDG.   FPS with my 7770 and 1080ti is the major decision point here!

Thanks!

Yes, you can run the EFB externally on an iPad and they've added the necessary meta tags to run it fullscreen on an iPad so it's very seamless.  Very cool!

I just bought the PMDG 737 last week and I love it.  I'll still be flying it often.  But I'm all in on the Fenix A320 right now.  Both of them are a must have, but I'd probably buy the Fenix first.
