May 27, 20224 yr Not sure if this problem is isolated to just the fenix but I believe it's an Asobo issue that has to do with their eye adaptation feauture and it's really annoying. I have posted 2 screenshots for you to see. I've tried turning eye adaptation off and on but don't really see a difference. This is taking in the peak afternoon with the cockpit screens turned all the way up to maximum brightness. The problem is it's either the outside view is properly balanced and exposed while the inside cockpit is dark and difficult to see OR if you pan down the cockpit is well exposed and easy to see, but then you give up the outside view as it is overly washed out! I wish we can have both the outside view and the cockpit properly exposed without giving up one for the other. May 27, 20224 yr Try using the visors. This is why you have sun visors. Even in small planes IRL it can be almost impossible to see instruments bright days. May 27, 20224 yr That's MSFS's exposure effect in bright surroundings. It's the same in every airplane. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
May 27, 20224 yr From what I've read on the main forum, this is a feature of MSFS and ASOBO has no plans to fix it. From what was said in past threads, the feature is so core to the sims functionality it can't be addressed at all. Slightly off topic, but a lot of modern games try to emulate what a camera lens will see, as opposed to what a human eye will see. This creative choice in the gaming industry has, from my understanding, led us here. I'm sorry but I don't think you'll ever not have this problem in MSFS, unless I was mislead by other posters. 😕 Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
May 27, 20224 yr Author That really sucks then. Never had this problem in the other sims. Arghhh. Quite annoying. It was an issue sometimes in P3D but at least we had the option to turn off the eye adaptation feature. There were also shader programs where we could tweak the VC shadows to our liking. The only way I have been able to overcome this in MSFS is with Nvidia Freestyle filters through GeForce Exp. I was able to brighten up the shadows a little bit along with some other contrast settings. I have since removed Geforce Exp though so currently back to default. May 28, 20224 yr To each their own, but I think it looks pretty good the way it is. Its the best approximation so far of real world lighting. P3D v3 and 4 always looked good inside with the outside too dark, p3d v5 and xplane always made the inside even darker than msfs. So far i think msfs does the best job of HDR lighting in the sim. it looks pretty convincing in vr. May 28, 20224 yr I tend to agree not fan of the over blown sun in the cockpit - I have to go into weather settings and turn down the humidity to clean it up a bit Rich Sennett

They complain about any and everything. I have also seen plenty of evidence of many real word videos that does the exact thing, dark cockkpits on sunny days. Edited May 28, 20224 yr by jbdbow1970
