Honeycomb Alpha or Thrustmaster TCA Yoke

Do you ever need to turn 90 degrees? I have never needed to turned my Yoko + in full 45 degrees as I can remember.

90 degrees on the Fulcrum equals 45 degrees on the Yoko. So rarely. What it does mean is more precision.

In real-life people do use full yoke deflection, especially in bush planes.  Example c120 take-off Wilson's bar Idaho

Note that the Fulcrum (slightly more expensive than the Honeycomb but substantially better) is eventually going to have a range of swappable yoke handles to suit different aircraft.   it is however a "push/pull" yoke, albeit one with 8" pitch throw.

I had been waiting for the new Honeycomb with the hall sensors because it had been said it was going to be $270.  When they released the actual pricing data a few weeks ago I wondered if they'd made a typo. Especially since while I overall like my Bravo, I find the quality control on the interchangeable handles to be poor, such that the jet handles wiggle around, making it hard to know exactly what power setting you've applied. That means that to me, Honeycomb is just about worth it in the $250-ish range but when they go north of $300 I would want to see a significant uptick in build quality.

My thoughts were exactly the same as yours, and I ordered the Fulcrum. Even after international shipping I paid just about $100 more than I would have for the Alpha, which made it a no-brainer for me. If I'm already paying ridiculous money for a toy airplane part, I might as well pay a little more and get a much better toy. 😉

Just got the email that it's on the bench being tested, so shouldn't be too long now!

Thanks. It is to expensive for me.

Check the MFG Crosswinds. They're significantly less expensive than the Thrustmasters and they are built! I get the sense I could whack mine a few times with a baseball bat, and I'd probably dent the bat. 😉 Really smooth, too. I've been very happy with them.

Interested in this topic. I flew a lot of Boeing in the p3d time. I have a good joystick for my fenix and fbw but my saiteck yoke is getting. Well. Old.. I also fly GA in msfs now that it looks amazing.. But can the thrusts master really compete against honeycomb in quality?

Hi all

I am flying MSFS FlyByWire A320neo using the Thrustmaster Airbus TCA set with the Joystick and the extended throttle set (Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus Edition).

I am very happy with this set.
I would like to add the apropriate pedals to increase the flying experience.

What is the best pedals set for the TCA Airbus edition?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,

You could try looking at Virpil pedals. I brought a 3 month old set from a private seller here in Canada and have been very happy with them. They are built like a tank, very well made. I have the Ace collection which allows for different configurations. They run around 350 Euros

See my earlier post regarding Honeycomb yoke "quality". (I own their TQ and it is awesome so only referring to the Yoke). But to your point, the TM yoke is pretty new so we do not know how it holds up over a longer time period but I am impressed by the build quality and solid feel.

Caution!

I wanted to replace my Honeywell combo with the TM Boeing Edition pack, but my PC desk is a glass table and Thrusmaster formally forbids the use of their product with glass. All the weight (almost 4 kg) is deported in the front and thus will break the table, even with safety glass.

I have been using the Honeycomb Alpha yoke for a year and generally happy with it.  I have shifted to more airliner flying so I have been checking out the Thrustmaster TCA Boeing yoke.  Anybody switch from the Alpha to the TCA and would recommend it?

If you are flying airliners there is no comparison to the TCA Boeing yoke. I was able to get the yoke itself highly discounted and cannot recommend it enough. There are a few cons to the design, mainly being due to the pendular design it has a bulky section that hangs really low and projects out toward you. But in order to have that flight column replicating design, it had to be done this way. Mounting this thing is also a challenge. You need a desk that's sturdy and thick enough to support it. As far as I know there are no yoke stands that officially support it either at this time (there is one in the Thrustmaster marketing video but it appears to be a mock-up?)

Honestly it is a great yoke for GA aircraft as well because it's so well designed and has great quality sensors. It's a great joy to hand fly and coming from any other controls makes me appreciate it every single time.

I would skip the throttle quadrant though. I have heard less than stellar review of it.

The Virtual Fly Yoko has the good long pitch axis but only has 45 degrees each way on the roll axis.

60 degrees each way.

Can always just put a few cuts of 2x4' scrap between mount and desk to help out.  But agree.  Love mine.

Im also on a glass table and was looking to get the Boeing Yoke and a Bravo Throttle to complement it. Guess ill have to replace the desk first.

I don't know who much costs a plate of solid wood in Florida but here in the Holly Land it will cost me the same price as the Boeing yoke if I replace the glass!! 🤣

I’m going for a Brunner this autumn when I get back in to simming on the dark nights again. Had a honeycomb since they came out. Was replaced under warranty due to the flaw in the port.
