July 24, 20223 yr What's been your most memorable flight in MSFS? It may be a flight that went particularly well, or when you flew over especially breathtaking scenery. Or perhaps you unexpectedly encountered a critical or life-threatening situation. Which flight sticks in your memory most vividly? July 24, 20223 yr I had a flight very early after release back in the end of 2020. Was chasing a hurricane off the coast of Louisiana to see how live weather was representing it. I flew in the Caravan which was a bit buggy at the time as many recall. After flying though heavy dark clouds for about a half hour, one of the bugs at the time reared its head and my avionics went totally black. After being annoyed at the time I decided to “make lemonade” and see if I could make it back to land through the heavy storm clouds. One of the few things that was still working was the compass so I figured if I headed north I would eventually make landfall and figure it out from there. Next problem was figuring out attitude and altitude. It was my first time in the plane and had no idea how to activate the autopilot so decide on an “alternate, perhaps not necessarily real world procedurally sound technique.” I caught a slight gap in the clouds and decided to descend to about 100’ off the ocean surface. From there I headed in going in and out of heavy cloud and almost no visibility at times. I stayed just low enough that I could always get enough of a glimpse of the waves to stay level. Using this technique I managed to make it all the way to shore, from there I found a flat enough field and safely touched down. Im sure in hind sight there were so many better ways to handle the situation (I can’t even remember if I had an attitude indicator working to follow for example), but it still stands as one of the more satisfying flights I’ve had.
July 24, 20223 yr Right now, I'm almost at the end of a flight from the UK to Melbourne, Australia, in the Just Flight non-turbo Arrow III. The whole thing has been memorable because with MSFS scenery, the view is always interesting, and there's a real feeling of travel and discovery. I absolutely love MSFS. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org

July 25, 20223 yr Author My own most memorable experience in MSFS is similar to @VFXSimmer's. I was flying from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Halifax, Nova Scotia, when my entire cockpit display froze up. I could still control the aerosurfaces of the Longitude. But I had no idea of my altitude, speed, heading, etc. I thought about just restarting the flight. But I thought, no, this problem with the cockpit display has probably happened to many pilots in real life. So I proceeded and did manage to land the plane safely at Halifax. July 25, 20223 yr Mine was probably after I really sat down and studied the entire FBW website and all the information it has to offer. Up until then, I was always one of those snobby “if it ain’t Boeing, I ain’t going”. I had done a few reckless flights in the FBW thinking I could figure it out. Obviously, that didn’t end well. After realizing I really needed to sit down and learn the Airbus systems in depth and then doing so, I did a flight from John Wayne to Phoenix in the FBW. It was then that I realized I had been missing out on an incredible piece of engineering for so long. The weather out of Southern Cali that morning still had the marine layer and watching that beautiful plane handle everything so well was something I’ll never forget. I still very much enjoy Boeing aircraft, but it was that flight, in this awesome simulator, that I finally understood why so many people love to fly Airbus planes. Edited July 25, 20223 yr by Bdub22
July 25, 20223 yr Honestly, pretty much any short / medium hop in the Fenix A320 with AI Traffic and ATC enabled. I play it from gate to gate and it's as immersive as I could ask for. July 25, 20223 yr My most breathtaking experience was my first VR flight. Taking off from Ambri in a C-152 and flying down the Gotthard route, humbled when looking up to the mountain peaks to the right and to the left the valley (you only feel terrain like that inVR). I followed the valley to Biasca, turned into the Blenio valley and climbed for a long time up to 11000 ft so I was able to cross the ridge separating Ticino from the Rheinwald valley. I remember this flight like I can remember real world flights to this day. Since then many VR flights followed. Almost every single one burned into my memory like the first one. I loved many of the bushtrips in the sim. Being a former airline sim pilot, I became a GA/VFR pilot...
