RTX3080 vs RX3090TI

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone here upgraded from a RTX3080 to a RTX3090Ti.
If so what was the difference ?

With the 3080 is till have stutters and only 22 FPS at the gate at Cologne Aerosoft.
CPU is I7-10700K

MSI Tomahawk Z790, I7-13700K, DDR5 6000mhz, MSI 4090, 3x SSD 980 PRO, Corsair 360 Liguid CPU cooler, Corsair H1200V2 power.

When you look at the FPS, are you limited by GPU or MainThread?

Highly, highly doubt the GPU is the bottleneck there.

Intel Core i7 8700k clocked to 4.6GHz, GTX1080Ti, 32GB DDR4 RAM, MSFS installed on NVMe drive, Windows 11, Dell 27" 60Hz Monitor + Dell 24" 60Hz Monitor. Resolution 1920x1080. Game Mode on, GPU scheduling enabled (Win11). MSFS settings: High-End for airlines, Ultra for GA.

Agree. If you’re main thread limited, reduce terrain LOD, AI traffic etc.

Without providing any settings you are running, the 22 FPS is highly subjective. My 5600x (basically the direct competition to the 10700k) pretty much owns MSFS in all scenarios, the sutters I get are all "limited by GPU" on moderate to high settings. But my GPU is only an nvidia 970 with 4GB of VRAM so thats expectable. With this, I noticed I can run stable 20FPS at LAX, but i gut heavy stutters at EDDF because of addon scenery texture sizes eating VRAM.

Terrain LOD seems to affect CPU and GPU, i have it on 175 and raising it to 200 causes me more stutters, but never the "limited by main thread" ones.

So, again, what settings are you running?

MSFS is, in a way like good old FSX, fairly CPU limited. The main thread is still a major hindrance for performance and when it cannot compute data fast enough, having a 3060Ti or a 3090Ti is exactly the same.

This might change with SU10 and/or a proper DX12 implementation, but as things are and with the ridiculous price of a 3090Ti (plus its mind-boggling power consumption) you're way way better with that 3080. Also, i'd hold on until SU10 is released and evaluate again if you're indeed focused in getting a new GPU.

Aerosoft Cologne is also very heavy on my system : 12700 and RTX3080

I have not too much trust in Aerosoft frame optimisation and the use of modern SDK tools

Indeed. It doesn’t perform well on my system either. Bit of a stutterfest.

And if you try to say that in Aerosoft forum, you will banned forever 😄

Before you spend on a top end GPU most expensive part of the PC now you should consider this.

And things in the industry are not looking good, reports are they are looking at job losses in the near future.

will hopefully result in lower prices and higher availability.(bitcoin mining market collaps) than the last 2 years, otherwise they can keep their RTX 4000.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

MSFS is very CPU limited especially if your not running 4k (I run 1440P) I was running an 8700k and a 3090 and even in GA planes was only able to hit 40ish FPS because of the mainthread. Now I have a 12700k at 5.1ghz and a 3090TI and once again main thread is my limiting factor. I'll be upgrading to a 13700k more than likely to get more single core performance. Currently performance is capped at 60fps with occasional drops to the mid 50s in GA and 40s with airliners at KLGA

Wait for DX12. 3090 here, first beta of SU10 when DX12 was working was magical.

For SU10 beta testers what did DX12 do for main thread impact?  I read here that multi-core use was improved, though VRAM in use went up some.   I'm always main thread limited in DX11 and always have ample GPU headroom, and run 3440x1440 w/ RS of 120.

It reduces it. When DX12 was "working" at the start of the beta, I got excellent multithreading on my 12900KF. This translated not so much in significantly higher fps, but the sim was more smooth and fluid than ever. Doing some benchmarks and the 1% low and 0.1% low fps was higher than without DX12 i.e. less stutters. I think DX12 in a working state also holds a promise for higher headroom for CPU intensive tasks, i.e. increasing the LODs, AI traffic etc, CFD calculations etc. So a good implementation of DX12 is definitely something to be excited about.
