October 10, 20223 yr Good day all, not aviation related, but sorta is as tech works hand in hand with aviation 😀 So I’ve been an iPhone user since the iPhone 4, I’m now on the 12 and was holding out on an upgrade until the iPhone 14 was announced to see if there were any changes. Pretty disappointed with the offering so I’m thinking of switching to the Samsung S22+, it seems to offer more for less money. I’m pretty happy with iOS but getting rather bored of the very small incremental updates where I may end up trying the android for a few years. Im not heavily invested in the so called “eco-system”. I do have an iPad that I will be keeping but that’s about it, no Iwatch, no mac book, no AirPods. Im enjoy tech, and know there are no right or wrong answers, but figured if anyone else is into this kind of thing maybe we can have a healthy discussion on what you prefer to use and why. Might sway my decision on sticking with the Apple brand 😂 Cheers! October 10, 20223 yr Do you have any apps purchased for your phone? That may add up to the cost of switching OSs. Also, do you really need to upgrade? Thanks, No purchased apps. Technically no real need to upgrade, however I only have the regular size screen and would like the bigger screen size, so pretty much the reason I would upgrade phones. The iPhone 14 now offers a plus size without having to dish out for the max version (kudos to apple for offering this) but the plus is pretty much the same size as the S22+. I would just sell my 12 to recoup some of the cost. October 10, 20223 yr I had similar indecision - please pay attention for one important aspect - updates. Most Android based brands support and upgrade system for rather short time, for example Asus only 2 years, others 3 or 4 years.. With Apple u have full support for many years - my old Iphone 6s ( released 7 years ago ) was fully supported until recently published IOS16... Artur

For the record, I have a Samsung S10e. I wanted to replace it with an S22 (the small one), but then the price increased a lot here. I gave up until it comes back to a more favorable price. Regarding updates (which I actually distrust, because of performance and battery life), I still have them for my S10e, even after almost 3 years since I purchased it. Samsung has a good update policy with the S series and maybe Note and Z too. For the other series, I'm not so confident. October 10, 20223 yr Does anybody know of any flip-phones that are just phones with no games, no GPS, no APPs, just a phone and maybe a pullup list of phone numbers? I have an iPhone and am only using it for phone calls...nothing else. Probably only 1/100th of what it is capable of doing. And I never take it with me anywhere. In fact I am seriously thinking of a land line. I know I'm a real Luddite, but the dam iPhone confuses me. Number 2 after telemarketer calls are surveys from everyone from your doctor(s) to the last time you had your car serviced to your grocery stores. When I see the words 'How did we do?' I immediately shut it off. I quit giving anyone my phone number. My local stores have it because they ask your phone number for rewards depending on how much you buy. Instead of rewards how about just lowering prices? Or is that too simple? Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 10, 20223 yr Administrators Noel, most phone places, other than Iphone, offer a newer type of flip phone that comes with unlimited calls and text, but no internet access or weird apps. I’m finally going to upgrade to a newer phone as well, mainly just for the better camera. Although my battery isn’t holding much of a charge anymore and mine is only 32GB which fills up quickly with photos and videos. I’ve got my eye on the 14ProMax. Just need to call Tmobil and see what kind of deal they can give me. They’ve always done right by me since I’ve been with them for 21 years. A few years back my original 6sPlus started having issues after the warranty expired. I called customer service to put a freeze on my account as I was thinking to switch service and they ended up sending me a new replacement for free. The only issue was that they didn’t have anymore 64GB in stock so I got the 32MB. I hadn’t even considered getting a new one until my wife and I were on vacation a few months ago and I saw the photos she was taking with her 13Pro and that was what convinced me to get a new one. Since I only change phones about ever 7 years or so, I don’t mind getting the best one at the time since I’ll get my moneys worth out of it. I’ve had Samsung/Galaxy phones prior but prefer to stick with the iPhone. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
