You can get the auxiliary tanks working in the enhanced version, from the official forums: Quote In the [Fuel] section of the flight_model.cfg file for the regular version the extra tanks are labeled Center1 and Center2 while in the enhanced version of the same file they are labeled LeftAux and RightAux. Changing them in the enhanced version to Center1 and Center2 appeared to make them work properly for me. Flying the retrofit has been a lot of fun. I'll try with it unlocked, as per @Scimiter's suggestion above. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org

As for the VC view, yes, it is difficult as one of the window frames is more or less in line with the pilot centreline if you are positioned right behind the yoke (as you should be of course). Luckily I have just bought a Tobii eye / head tracker so I can move up / down, and side to side a bit. It helps a lot. Apparently, a lot of the cockpit windows open if you drag them and this enhances the great engine sound even more. I can't wait to try this when I get home from work tonight. November 14, 20223 yr I dealt with the floating takeoff per a suggestion in another forum which is to kick out the passengers in the back, [about 4 rows of them], until the C of G hovers over the most fwd C of G line, in the MSFS pre flight aircraft set up section, [Fuel & Passenger load]. I have another issue though. The Retro uses Garmin 430/530 GPS's & I have had no problems with them . Last night I installed the Working Title Mod 430/530 GPS from .to & I think it has taken over the DC-3 Retro GPS's. However, shortly after take off this morning in a Retro, had a CTD, 1st for months. So I am wondering about the WT GPS mod as it is the only change I have made since yesterday. Anyone else had problems after installing the WT 430/530 mod? T45

I do not know if this is correct way or not to land this plane, but what helps me is to keep that tail wheel off the ground for as long as possible when landing or taking off. When landing I keep a little forward pressure on the yoke until she slows down and then release some pressure and bring the tail wheel down. As soon as the (locked) wheel comes down I start over correcting with the rudder and am in the grass. I do the same when taking off. When I hit about 40 I push the yoke forward to get the tail wheel off the ground eraly and hold her down until about 85/90 and then release some pressure on the yoke and she lifts. 9950X3D, PNY 5090, 64GB DDR5 6000, MSI X870-P, GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 2TB NVMe, 3440x1440 AW3423DW gsync ultimate.
November 14, 20223 yr Well, I just did a landing at Stansted, and narrowly stayed on the tarmac. Glad to hear I'm not the only one having difficulties - and thanks for the tips, chaps. Now that the STOL take-off has been dealt with, this is becoming a better model, so it's worth persisting with the landing practice. November 14, 20223 yr What was Douglas thinking when they built the cockpit shell? That window spar is dead smack where the runway is from the pilot seat! Arthur Raymond's engineering aside, this plane is so fun to fly. I love the CFD too; It's really unforgiving if you cross control it when slow, and the ground effect is chefs kiss. Obviously I've never flown one, but it does a great job of making it feel as though I had. This plane gets an A from me. Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
November 14, 20223 yr Changing the lift_coef_ground_effect_mach_table made the take off smoother/easier? Taking off as before and it feels easier. I made the changes to the auxiliary tanks at the same time and they are now working. Just landed and it is worse/harder with this change? Everyone walked away. I just need more practice. My one complaint is the positional lights look terrible. I don't have time to watch the 1 hour video, but does it cover these issues? I read a few comments, and fuel burn is wildly out and correct by the mod, so is the mad pitch up on take-off. I wonder what Carl thinks of this. @cavaricooper Has anyone heard from him lately? He was looking forward to this DC-3. EDIT: The guy himself who did the flight model (from the YouTube video) has replied... "For those looking for a fix for DC-3 takeoff characteristics, and you have the ability to edit the flight model config file, try this ground effect table, lift_coef_ground_effect_mach_table = 0.055642:1.141188, 0.102462:1.094058, 0.196717:1.057306, 0.298358:1.041890, 0.400821:1.030873, 0.501642:1.024918, 0.601642:1.019753, 0.701642:1.015583, 0.8:1.010383, 0.9:1.005553, 1:1 The problem was that there were many points missing in the curve and if the sim interpolates between extremes, then lift will be too high in the middle of the range. I just did a quick test flight and it made a big difference. I was even able to take some of the nose down trim out. Or, you can remove passengers from the last couple of rows of seats to move the CG forward. I don't think most flights operated at 100% capacity anyway." Link: https://www.youtube.com/user/WellsSullivan/community @hs118 So it was a valid problem - It was obvious it was wild on take-off - don't write simmers off so easily! lift_coef_ground_effect_mach_table = 0.055642:1.141188, 0.102462:1.094058, 0.196717:1.057306, 0.298358:1.041890, 0.400821:1.030873, 0.501642:1.024918, 0.601642:1.019753, 0.701642:1.015583, 0.8:1.010383, 0.9:1.005553, 1:1 After changing this in the flight model.cfg. I think she's flying purrrity darn good 😉 Thanks
November 14, 20223 yr Rather like this one as well, even though I haven't invested nearly as much time as in the A310. One thing has been odd for me, though. Tell me if you've encountered the same: The first three flights ended a couple of NM from the departing airport when for some odd reason the plane just keels over to the left and spins into the ground. I had been following the in-built checklists to the letter. What seemed to make the behaviour go away was me setting mixture to auto-lean before T/O and not in cruise as per the checklist. Then it never did the same again. First time it happened I thought I had overstressed the engines, so on the next T/O I took it *really* easy on the engines (props fully forward and, what, #35-40 on the manifold). That maybe gave me half a NM more before the same happened. The third was more or less a repeat of the second. On the fourth and fifth I set the mixture levers, as said, to auto-lean and could complete the two 50NM short hops without issue. Same weather and temps on all the attempts.
