TrackIR

Have to wear a headset?  Thanks, but no thanks.

You have to wear something for TrackIR too. Delanclip works pretty much the same way as TrackIR, only it does it better. My TrackIR would regularly freak out if it thought it'd lost sight of the reflectors. Delanclip never did that, probably becuase the PS5 camera is a better sensor than the TrackIR's.

The actual "clip" part of the track clip pro is very poorly designed/implemented. It really struggles to stay clipped onto the many different headphones I have owned over the years, so I've employed the use of elastic and other such things just to keep it attached sometimes.

It looks like the  Track Clip Pro which comes with Track Ir 5. Is there any diference  ?

As others said it's cordless, which is great because the TrackIr clip has a crappy old school telephone cord that will entangle itself everywhere and just annoy you as long as it exists. Also it's MUCH more sturdy than that clip. It fits perfectly to my headset and has been working for years in daily usage.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I can't agree with this. The clip has a two stage lock so can be adjusted to fit snugly on thin and thick headbands of  just about any headset. Is it possible you have it on the second stage so it is loose on a thin band? If there is no pressure on the clip it may come undone and this will happen if you are using the wrong notch in the clip.

That said, after 10 years of use my foam has become compacted enough to have it start being a little looser than I like it. This has only happened because I recently started to forget to unclip it when I'm not using it and my current headset has a very think band. All I have done to fix this was tape a layer of kitchen roll around that part of the headband so now the band is even a little thicker and now the clip is very snug again.

No headset for Track IR, just a Visor.

That is possible.

I haven't used it in a while as I pretty much only fly the PMDG 738 and have my custom cameras set up exactly like I did with the same bird and chaseplane in P3D.

Anyway, sorry to OP for straying off topic.

Look closely at the hinge. You will see it has two places where it can catch and rest and is dificult to describe in text. I vaguely remember it me taking a few close looks in there to work out what is going on when I first had it as I think I had a similar problem until I realised I was missing the design intention.

I still use a TrackIR 3, being using it ofr 20 years.

For me the best solution was to mount the old school track clip on my discord headset (using it on a cap means looking up always has issues with the peak) and I mounted the IR camera thingy quite close to  me on the other end of my yoke on a pedestal/stand I knocked up to raise it to just below screen height.

Go with the Tobii eye tracker. I  personally found it to be an upgrade from Trackir having used Trackir for 8 years. Trackir is old technology and the IR clip is very very fragile ,it will break. I can guarantee most of them older then 6-12 months are held together with tape or blue tak

Why turn your head when you are looking directly at a screen?

because  other  wise  you wont  be  able  to see  around  you 🙂

I think I got my TIR 5 in something like 2004. Have used it since. It has lasted though several house moves and new PC's. The clip on the cap is the delicate piece of the setup and have nearly broken it a few times. Such a vital piece of kit for me.

Exactly.  When I saw that TobII would still let you look behind I was pretty much sold.

You'll be disappointed. Most flight sim reviews of the Tobii say they turn off eye tracking and just use it as a head tracker 😐
