Some fly without Bing data/Photogrammetry?

I'm not learning to fly, I'm playing with my toy planes as are the majority of long-standing simmers like me 😉

I like looking out of the window.

If you have safety concerns or feel I have committed the thought crime of not fully buying into the "flight sim is serious and real" dogma then feel free to report me to the FFSAA. Or.... Federal Flight Simulation Aviation Administration for negligence or not taking virtual aviation seriously enough 🤣

Already reported

I'll contact my virtual solicitor and prepare my defense.

I think I will plead sanity 😄

I had forgotten about the solid bridges and also the missing light effects with much of the PG. Those are two other reasons I don't like having it turned on. Especially those solid bridges...they just look horrible to me. And, I don't fly over the scenery at 100 feet all the time. Mostly, I am flying the Fenix A320 or the PMDG 737 or similar aircraft. Even when I fly smaller aircraft like the C310 or C414 I am up pretty high. The things I notice about PG that bother me, I notice too often no matter what altitude I am flying at. At some point, I am taking off or landing, and then I typically see many PG discrepancies that annoy my. So, I keep it off and BINGO, no annoyance 🙂 Seems simple enough.

Someone care to show a picture of the same area with PG / Bing on, then PG off / Bing on, then both off?

Curious to see what different people enjoy. My MSFS PC is far away right now lol.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

While I like flying with PG on and can even fly with a helicopter between buildings in some areas, I do wish the PG would be better when on the ground at an airport which is surrounded by PG.

Shouldn't the pilot on an approach be focused on the runway rather than the scenery?

Depends how far out you are doesn’t it? Focusing on the runway likely leads to target fixation.

I tend to keep a look out by looking around and also checking my instruments, checking how I’m doing on profile, looking for traffic plus looking at the runway,  just keeping up the situational awareness.

If I’m flying a big aircraft, I’m only focused on the runway at about 50 ft agl, just before the flare.

To me the game is about flying around having fun and exploring, plus maybe doing some instrument approaches now and then so photogrammetry is a major aspect to the experience and adding realism.

I have the hunch that man has always dreamed to fly to see the clouds up close and the world below not to monitor dials or the end of the runway 😉.

Without the sat terrain,  MSFS is as dreaful as FSX and P3D are in its own way. I would have given up the latter without the wonderful Orbx fat regions and other world enhancements. MSFS has shifted up the scenery gear and there is no turning back.

In spite of my weak machine, I keep PG on but I rarely fly in heavy PG-ed regions anyway. It would be  nonsensical for me to fly in NYC or London without it. Its a huge credit to Asobo that I can with a 4770+1080 combo (with reasonably clear weather and low traffic) ! As said upthread the only issue are the solid bridges which are a true abomination.

On the recent Q&A they addressed the quality of PG in general starting at this timestamp: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1725146227?t=00h23m39s ... i.e. the issues with the Canada WU PG, London being reworked, etc. Note how they also call out they're fixing all the solid bridges across *all* the released world updates as a big effort that's going on now (at this point they've identified all the solid bridges that need fixing and started working on it).

This is good to hear. Especially that London is being reworked. I think it looks dreadful compared to much of the other areas I have seen.

PG is awsome when it loads correctly, but for me 70% of the time it only looks melted and doesnt load up correctly. So I turned it off, I only use it if im doing a local sigthseeing..

Well, this is encouraging and when they actually accomplish this work on the PG quality and solid bridges I will definitely give it another shot. I would love that it worked everywhere, all the time, because when it does look good, it looks great. But, for me, one melted building in a sea of good looking buildings ruins the vibe for me. Ever seen Inception? Reminds me of that scene where Leonardo goes back into the city him and his wife created and it is all detoriating.

This reminds me of the gratitude I owe to Black Shark. I doubt Jorg would have been able to sell the idea of a new flight sim to Microsoft without that engine being able to do its magic.
