" A hundred and fifty thousand objects. All hand placed"

Featured Replies

Well, that's what he says at 4:10. It must be tiring placing object after object after object....

I assume you are insinuating a slight exaggeration by the dev, and I tend to agree. On the other hand "WeLoveVFR" by Puffin are really good addons that contribute to realism in-sim!

I never said all objects are hand placed 😄 Some youtubers and news sites twist my words a little and it ends up a bit confusing. Many people are sure that my add-ons contain wind turbines, for example. I never stated that, but one news outlet made a mistake and now it's very common misconception. Even ChatGPT is sure We Love VFR has wind turbines 😄 Still, it's nice of them to feature my add-ons, so I don't complain.

150.000 objects in terms of Region 3 was a rough estimation. I don't really know the exact figures but it should be around that. Just antennas and chimneys are almost 80.000 and we have way over 50k yurts 😉
Most of these objects were placed based on data from OpenStreetMap and other sources combined. But there were A LOT of manually placed/verified objects. For example 2783 cooling towers were manually verified and set to look as close to real life as possible. Same with 2805 chimneys and 3094 antennas. Hundreds of construction sites near airports were verified and sometimes disabled if they were interfering with glideslope. Add to that ALL radar domes and ALL sat dishes and radio telescopes and you will get the final "hand-placed objects" count. Pretty sure it's over 10k. And that's just for the Region 3.

Regardless of how many objects were hand-placed, WeLoveVFR (all 3 regions) will always have a place in my community folder. Excellent work @PuffinFlight. Thank you for sharing it with us.

However many objects and whatever objects are included, welovevfr 1, 2 and 3 are the first thing that goes into my community folder and I can think of no reason why anybody would want to omit it.

Try his fireworks addon too.  That's fun, especially on New Years Eve.

My fav "We Love VFR" moment was flying North East from Key West over the Florida Keys,   and suddenly spotting a TARS dirigible tethered approx 10,000 feet above Cudjoe Key.

Gotta try them. Among all the screenshots I've seen, there's an observatory I've visited IRL recently, and now I'm curious.

Sounds great but perhaps mostly useful for low altitude flying.  Is that essentially the case?  I'm guessing the performance hit will be minimal, just a little longer load times?

Cheers

Yes, low altitude IFR in the main.  As you say, performance hit minimal, and extra load times won't be much as the are only about 600MB fully unpacked.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Awesome sounds like a no brainer.  I'm hoping someone does shooting stars and aurora some time that would be fabulous too if well done!

Yes.  I think that will probably be down to Asobo though.  They said they want to do Aurora at least in a Twitch session quite a while ago.  I would like the stars to be improved as well.  They look like ugly blobs on my screen even at 4k.

I've posted in the MSFS forum about the stars/planets during dawn/dusk looking like stars projected on a planetarium ceiling at low resolution.  However as the night sky darkens deeply at altitude they can be quite impressive w/ some modest twinkling, a bit of color variation, much sharper, and at 3440x1440.  Very nice I hope their comment comes to fruition

Has there been any news on getting (the excellent) we love VFR into the marketplace since their changes in testing etc? I read on the forums and discord about the issues regarding lack of communication from ms/asobo previously.
