I mean, will the only difference between the two in the end be missions or no missions? So, sort of a deluxe version with missions and a basic version without missions? Then why not simply add an option to buy missions for FS2020? Now personally, i like the shown missions very much, (been fantasizing about helicopter cargo transport (and delivery!) since around fs95 or so, but i'd also like to know for sure that along with the missions the core of the 2024 sim isn't going some different direction than MSFS2020. I'm confused and with little answers about future directions of the two sims, it's very hard to make a choice isn't it? Missions aren’t they only stuff being added. It’s also on an updated version of the engine

Trailers don’t always show everything. It’s also probably more than a year out from release, plenty of time for more trailers. Edited June 12, 20232 yr by Tuskin38

It looked like it wasn't scene specific, rather the new autogen. June 12, 20232 yr As for the „gamification“, I‘m normally not interested in missions etc. and I‘m sure that most of the time I will still use the sim the way I‘ve always done (flying airliners), but I have to say those animations do look nice. If the mission design is good as well I, can imagine that those missions will be a lot of fun. I hope the animated people will interact with the environment like in a proper game and aren‘t just scripted muppets like the ones we currently have in the sim. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

Whatever was shown in this teaser trailer was meant for the XBox gaming showcase event, and ok so it focused on missions type activities which could be called "gamification" or not. But regardless, how do we know at this point that core simulator features/fixes *have* taken a back seat? How is it obvious that API support has taken a backseat since it can't be used by XBox? Admittedly all we have now is this initial teaser trailer for the XBox showcase event, we definitely need to find out more from MS/Asobo before drawing broad conclusions... I have a feeling a lot more will be clear by the end of this month and FSExpo. After having come this far since the initial release in 2020 to keep improving the core sim and focus on aircraft/avionics fidelity and other "non-gamification" aspects, why would they stop doing that for the 2024 release since after all it's meant to be the proper successor/sequel to the sim? I just don't see them doing that. Sometimes I see a lot of folks immediately jump to the conclusion that when visuals or other stuff is improved and focused on by MS/Asobo that therefore automatically means that's at the expense of sim realism. With a huge team and deep pockets of MS, I don't think it has to be an either/or. The Anniversary and GOTY updates were announced at Xbox events. X-Box is the name of Microsoft’s gaming division now, it’s not just console. It covers PC and Console products. June 12, 20232 yr I am also exited for the next iteration and looking forward to 2024. There are a lot of unknowns but as long as the majority of addons are compatible I will move on day 1, and delete 2020. This actually works well, as that is about when I will purchase my next rig. Also, I do not have any real interest in missions, but there are times at the end of a day when I have a little time, not enough to plan and carry out a flight, but a small window when taking a crack at one or two missions is quite enjoyable. I am happy they are there, and hopeful that they draw in more people and keep the franchise going. I also hope this iteration fixes some of the longstanding issues that have been mentioned -- trees on the runway, suicidal airport workers, both the rampies and the tug drivers, and progress on ATC and AI. I have been playing RPG and wargames for 40 years so please don't you tell me how the industry goes. In any case, I don't know of any game I 've played that has such a large but fragile cottage industry of addons around. in 2019/20, the MSFS team brought havoc to these little guys. MS obviosuly doesn't care. We, as a community of simmers, do. Now using the word FUD is a bit weird if not inappropriate. FUD is a disinformation technique. Fear, uncertainty and doubt, who do you mean raised them, the community or the awkward MS PR ? We are an old community of simmers with the MS franchise here. Why should we FUD FS24 release ? Hold back innovation to cater to something rotting for over a decade? If you've been playing these games for over 40 years then please stop acting so surprised. A lot of those poor unfortunate dev are now eating better than they ever did on the MSFS platform. This is business at the end of the day. As a consumer, I'm glad we got advance notice because I was about to buy XP11. It is a new era and 3PDs simply have to get with the times. There's more money to be made but a little more work involved. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
June 12, 20232 yr I think we would be in worse shape now if FSX wasn't left to die. I have major respect for the ACES team, but they likely would have kept bolting things on to the existing framework instead of starting fresh. In part, to maintain the backward compatibility demanded by the community and 3rd party developers. MSFS needed new perspective. Even so, it was obvious 2020 recycled some code. I'm thinking 2024 is throwing even more of that recycled code out of the window. Some people here aren't giving the trailer enough credit, the detail in those scenes is stunning! I'm sure someone will make a video putting together comparison shots soon.
