August 11, 20232 yr Three years after the release, I see with glee all these marvelous aircraft, the Comanche, the Fenix, the Spit’, the 737, the 310 etc., I also see a booming scenery industry. Freeware has never been so creative. Then I remember the despicable schadenfreude of those who predicted the death of a « greedy » cottage industry in 2019/20, I remember the wannabee guru who was adamant that the WASM and Xbox environment or whatever wouldn't allow complex addons. They’ve left the stage but reality rubbed their nose in their pee. Nope. Speaking of what I have the Flyingiron warbirds are excellent, the Milviz birds are in no way less than they were in P3D. The Dc6, the Comanche are gems. What we have is more aircraft so quality spectrum is larger. August 11, 20232 yr I think it is saying that all the negativity that surrounds MSFS usually turns out to be wrong. And to be honest, there are now many many quality addons apart from the Comanche. The Got Friends Wilga is exceptional, so is the Ant's Tiger Moth. The FSReborn Sting S4, the Simworks Kodiak and the Black Square steam gauge stuff are all well worth a look. Most of the complaints about "lack of good addons" comes from people either narrowly focussing on one small area ... typically stuff like "this game sucks because I cannot buy every variant of the 737 " or maybe "this game sucks because we have no Study Level [insert favourite aircraft here] in game yet" or alternatively they are just dismissing all the good stuff they never actually tried themselves, purely based on a few complaints about minor bugs that nine times out of ten effect very few people or are just user error. As for the Comanche, it is now getting complaints about being not generic enough. people are whining about stuff like how the realistic custom fuel system means they need to use the EFB Tablet instead of the MS interface and insisting new addons should be 100% compatible with the MS fuel loading etc screens. You really cannot win.

August 11, 20232 yr This thread sounds a bit unpleasant really and hypocritical in complaining about “despicable schadenfreude” Despite that, It’s actually amazing what’s been done on the Xbox I never expected the game to be a fraction as good as it is on the console. unfortunately now though, the console seems more and more to be nearing it’s limits really on FS2020 with increasing CTDs and blank screens if you do have some of these more complex add ons particularly the less well optimised of the most complex airports and aircraft. When faced with these challenges, many of the big devs have been great at optimising their products for console and creating intuitive control systems, some however, have not. I’ve been amazed to have full navigraph and simbrief integration on FlightFX aircraft like the vision jet and h jet on console and the magenta aircraft symbol on my iPad. Obviously PC pilots have had this for years but we never thought we’d see it on Xbox. Many of the aircraft also have simbrief integration and navigraph carts able to be displayed in the aircraft now. I think what we have seen is a change of view (outside here anyway) and many devs have realised (through marketplace sales) that the console is a market in itself and there’s a (huge) demand for complex aircraft on it, and it’s not just a gateway device for “gamers” to become ‘serious simmers’ It’s also fantastic to see so many young people get into flightsim like I did when I was young and read on discord etc about how many of them are looking at continuing onto a career in aviation. Many of these changes are happening due to console and game pass making the sim much more accessible and interesting to young people again, which is great to see. I have also seen in my airline that many pilots like me have got back into flightsim more and bought Xboxes just to play the new version and like the sofa flying aspect. Flying with the Xbox controller has turned out to be very enjoyable and intuitive, especially if you’re familiar with the aircraft irl even on aircraft like the 787. People like working title have finally made the 787 good enough to use for practicing procedures and some approaches etc on console. A situation that I only dreamt of when FS2020 was first announced. I was hoping for a mid cycle Xbox update with more vram to improve it but that’s not apparently happening, hopefully the increase in cloud processing in FS2024 will improve things for the console. FS2020 seems in great health generally with lots of great and continuing content and commitment from asobo/ms with yet more SU CU and WU before FS2024 appears and developers and all/most marketplace products will also apparently work in FS2024 It’s great to see flightsim get this needed jolt and shake up and it’s truly a golden era for flight sim. This industry will progress thanks to the half a dozen of devs who know how to conciliate a profitable business and a labor of love. And we are lucky to have a very large public which understands the value of a good aircraft and buy the stuff. That does not make the low end less honorable btw, this is another market thats all. August 11, 20232 yr I find it amazing how many people can take threads like this the wrong way. This is a discussion forum after all. If it wasn't it would be a bit boring. And yes, the doomsayers have been proven wrong. I get frustrated at some of the ongoing bugs, but I am glad we have this sim, and some of the fantastic addons that have been developed for it. I wouldn't be without it. I remember some people saying the likes of PMDG, A2A etc. probably would not come over. Well they have, along with some great new developers such as GotFriends. There is no sign of Quality Wings, but we have a great B787 now anyway. I admit a good Concorde would be nice, but it probably wouldn't interest the majority of simmers. @Dominique Spill the beans! Who was this 'wannabee guru'? Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. I wouldn't comment on planes where I only own a few GA aircraft and am not an expert, but average quality of airport and landmarks addons, where I know the setting quite well, has never been so high as today. While Flightbeam & Co are slow (as they were before) to release their masterpieces, a number of 1st tier developers like NZA, Inibuilds, and Pyreegue came up with airports making me plainly speechless, compared with what we saw until quite recently in P3D and XP. There inevitably are are a number of cheapies like Illuminators,& friends, but no one forces you to buy their stuff. It seems you're entire trail of comments regarding MSFS is pure pessimism and when you get called out on it being blatantly untruthful or unnecessarily nihilistic, you ignore them and continue with the mindset. If you're so consistently negative of the sim, why do you keep using it?
