Is the METAR situation a problem with LR servers? Or is it the NOAA system?

It's not with NOAA, for sure, unless if  due to host blocking...

I ask it that way because LR's server downloads the NOAA files and redistributes them to us peasants. I've known NOAA servers (for other things) to go down over a weekend and not get fixed until the first work day of the following week, which is Tues in this case as US has a holiday tomorrow. I know LR's aware of the situation. The org and discord is lit up with complaints. I think if it was on their end, it would be rebooted/fixed by now...

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Others are using NOAA without issues...

Must be LR. E.g. their metars haven't updated since yesterday:

https://weather-mirror.x-plane.com/v12/noaa/

but the NOAA server is still cranking them out just fine:

Ok, those clouds rival or surpass DCS! 😮 And the lighting is perfectly matched.

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

some screenshots look great, and I was thinking about getting VisualXP, but there seem to be too many problems with it, ranging from night lighting "cockpit lights are too dark or not working anymore. Furthermore exterior lights are also not working properly. No lights on the ground (landing, strobe, beacon...), to complete x-plane crashes:

Can confirm. It's hit and miss right now. The light enhancements are very much focused on bloom/fog effects which IMHO makes the sim look like FSX did ca 2012 with ENB bloom addon. No thanks.

Most of the atmosphere color presets are now worse (some by a huge margin) than default since LR corrected the sky colors.

Clouds look great at times, but it's way too inconsistent in realistic depictions.

It's a fun tool, you can tinker for hours with a wide range of parameters for sky, water, lights, clouds etc. But yeah, it randomly crashes my sim, shaders are acting weird (cache always deleted before flights).

I'd rate it 3.5/5. Too many "oooh" to "eeew" moments for me.

Running visual XP ultimate package, btw.

hmm not seeing much of those problems, do you have the latest version from their website?

fps looks the same with default settings, but you can adjust the settings to make it better/worse

Yes, otherwise you'll get a warning and the plugin won't load for B7/R1

Sometimes it looks gorgeous, no question about it.

edit: Loading a custom saved preset from Atmosphere page instantly crashes my sim.

edit II: just to show that default is actually holding its own vs the presets.
