Potential improvements for sky colors

Just to be clear, I didn't come up with the parameters of that preset, They were posted by MortThe2nd on the official forums. I just happened to test them after testing the others and thought they were better, so I recommended them here.

I tried this quickly yesterday (didn't have much time) and didn't seem to work, didn't notice any difference. Will have to give it another go just to make sure. 😉

Ah yes - sorry to MortThe2nd.  Credit goes to him for coming up with them, and you for publicising them.

As for the text file, that's a shame.  Maybe it just reads the parameters on first loading and then stores them in memory somewhere to swap with the originals when toggled, rather than re-reading the text config file again every time we toggle.  No big issue anyway.  :smile:

The thread is now a bit over-long as you say, and I thought about making a new one simply to point out this new easier process, as a lot of people won't know this updated information is in the thread - a lot has changed since the early discussion, and that is all it was at first - just a discussion rather than an implementation.

That seems like a very good idea to me Bob.

Would be a great idea, with all the information consolidated in the OP, with every method clearly outlined. When you reach this point in a thread, it just devolves into people asking the same thing and solutions posted a bit all over the place.

This doesn't seem to be working for me, I see no difference in the sky colors and the toggle key does nothing either. I am able to drop the files in the proper folder without getting any error messages about administrator rights, but nothing is happening. Not sure why it doesn't work for me, I'll try to investigate further later.

What is the file size of the flightsimulator.exe file?  If it is zero bytes, it is one of the dummy / shortcuts files, and it won't work in that folder.

Have you changed the 'false' values to 'true' in the ini file?

I created a new discussion, but it was moved straight away to 'tips and tricks' and locked!  :blink:

That kind of defeated the purpose of what I was trying to do (publicise and collate), but the moderator doing it probably didn't understand what I was trying to do; we needed further discussions and the ability to answer questions in that thread - but never mind!  :sad:

File size is 141,608; installation is in my C:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content folder.

Yes, and also tried using a different key.

It's possible the change is working in the sim and only the toggle key function isn't working with my keyboard, but without the toggle working I can't be sure if the color changes are working or not.

Well, you still can do like everyone else was doing,, enter the sim, take a screenshot, exit the sim, change values, enter the sim, take screenshot and compare 😄

Yeah, I'm going to investigate this further today. It ought to be working, but the toggle is doing nothing so I'm at a loss as to why at this point. My keyboard mapping perhaps? Don't know at this point...

Thanks for the tip, I'm looking at this again now to see if I'm doing something wrong with the editing of the .ini file. I'll report back in a little bit with what I find.

Try CTRL+ INSERT for the toggle instead of just Insert. it's working for me.

Like this:

Quote

[TOGGLE]
ENABLED = true
; See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/inputdev/virtual-key-codes for all the key codes
; Default: INSERT
KEY_CODE = 0x2D
HOLD_ALT = false
HOLD_CTRL = true
HOLD_SHIFT = false

Well well well. I was one of those who said we'd wait for SU14 but this new method is so easy I decided to take the plunge and I am very happy with the results!

Yes, it isn't hurting anything, so we might as well have our fun ahead of time!  :smile:  It works well!

@BaronKen  I had to use exactly the same setup as Alvega.
I have mine set up to hold the left control key before pressing the insert key and it works fine, otherwise, as some have said, it might clash with the drone camera key binding.
