For me luminance / lightingt and the color of the sky are fundamentally linked, one cannot function without the other. And for me this is the whole weakness of MSFS in this compartment. No balance at all. There are clouds, there are colors of sky, there is light but it doesn't work together. No harmony.Everything is compartmentalized without any grace. October 10, 20232 yr Okay.... I have gained the access of that previously denied WindowsApps folder where my exe file lives. But now when I try to move those very small files to that folder, it says that there is not enough room. 400Kb more is needed. What the he.....??? Tapani Österberg

It is turning out to be a right pain for you it seems. I finally took the plunge last night and I converted it to a new installation through the Xbox app by following the Parallel 42 Stripr installation instructions. (In case I want to use Stripr or similar apps in the future). It took about 2 minutes and worked perfectly, plus it moved it off my C: drive to my G: drive (Games). Although it says moving 137GB during the process, mine only moved the 2GB that is on my C: drive, and because I only use SSD's now, it was really quick; probably less than 2 minutes actually for the whole process from start to finish - seemed too easy! Also, the 'main' bulk of the installation is on my F: drive (Official and Community folders etc.), and that is where those files / folders stayed. The old MSFS icon just seemed to point straight to the new installation and it started up fine first time. After dropping the three files in next to the newly created and easily discoverable flightsimulator.exe, I fired up the sim, and the sky colour changer worked perfectly. October 10, 20232 yr @daztheman70 As we can now toggle the setting on and off in the sim (it is almost instant), I can see it does change the sky colour slightly during the day. I was set at about 1pm, and it seemed to bring the blue sky out more and reduce the horizon haze layer slightly. It is very subtle though, and I think a bit of an improvement. Obviously dawn and dusk colours are massively better that the old orange / purple colours (in my opinion), and that was the main aim of this app. I am using @Alvega's preset. I dare say more settings might turn up with all of the experimentation that will now take place, but I am happy with the settings from Al for now. I am not going to mess about too much as it takes hours what with all of the going in and out of the sim. Although one thing I haven't tried yet is editing and saving the text config file while in the sim, then toggling the colour changer - I wonder if it is possible to tweak the colours without restarting the sim by using that method. As it is a live memory injector, it may be possible. Thanks once again to @Drunq and @Biology. Superb work for sure. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). October 10, 20232 yr To me, this all seems like way too much ballache for a subtle improvement gain. I've tried umpteen times in many ways to get access to my msfs folders without success and the whole process is not without the risk of having to reinstall all over again, so I will swerve this one for now in the hope that ASOBO will try to recreate the result in SU14. Also this thread has got completely out of hand with people slagging each other off in that it has become almost impossible to follow 44 pages and sort the wheat from the chaff without having a lot of time to actually read and digest it let alone trying to implement it. Sure. Obviously it's down to the individuals choice. I like meddling, tweaking, and seeing what's new, and I haven't messed up my install yet in three years, because I am careful, oh, and I let others go first! I also found the new install conversion extremely easy to do, and the file drop afterwards. So there is good info in here for people who want to give it a go. The thread is now a bit over-long as you say, and I thought about making a new one simply to point out this new easier process, as a lot of people won't know this updated information is in the thread - a lot has changed since the early discussion, and that is all it was at first - just a discussion rather than an implementation. As for all the kerfuffle, I don't know why people take it so seriously. Filou actually makes some very good points, but he uses a sarcastic and cutting humour, and he likes his sparring with people. Some of his remarks can seem insulting, but I just laugh at them, and the way he says it in his poetic Frenglish. I am also sure he says then with a smirk on his face. It is a European thing I think, and our American friends don't always understand it. I find him quite amusing. If some people don't, then just don't respond, skip over, or grow a thicker skin. For some, you would think it is their first day on the internet. The moderators do a good job at keeping the discussion on the rails anyway. When XP12 was released I flew it a couple of times and was completely hooked with its excellent lighting. I ended up using it exclusively for nine months. I checked in with MSFS each month, but the lighting looked as you described. However, when I initially loaded XP12, I was jarred by the more barren landscape, but being a flight simulator enthusiast I stuck with it, getting my senses tuned in to the way XP12 displayed things. After nine months of checking in with MSFS each month and being less than impressed (especially with the sky), it occured to me I didn't like what I was seeing because I needed to 'tune back in' to the MSFS way of displaying the world. So, I spent a few days of flying only MSFS - XP12 now became jarring to look at! I think this is why we get so many 'my sim is better than your sim' type arguments - to truly appreciate what a particular sim has to offer, you have to be willing to 'acclimatise' to it, before you can appreciate what it does well. I explained that because I completely disagree with your thoughts on the MSFS sky. A flight simulator is such a huge, complex beast, no company is going to get everything right straight out the box - we have to be willing to tune it in to our personal senses. For me I have done the following. 1.. Purchased a HDR600 monitor. The real sky is bright, so anything we can do to maximise brightness will aid sky realism. MSFS sky is a whole lot better in HDR. 2.. Use addons to further tune the sim. A developer focussing purely on one aspect of the sim is likely to produce more realism. For cloud depiction I have settled on xEnviro. It displays many more cloud types more convincingly than MSFS default - nothing wrong with default clouds of course, but xEnviro cloud types are more realistic to my eyes. xEnviro has its limitations, but your concern seems to be with the way clouds are portrayed.
