September 7, 20232 yr In case you don't visit MSFS forum where links to this were posted. Here's a modest cockpit, not! 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
September 7, 20232 yr Or you could just go VR and have a different unique virtual cockpit for every different aircraft instead of a 737 cockpit while flying an Airbus, and also save a ton on electricity by not needing 10+ monitors.... Or not.... September 7, 20232 yr Yeah, I've tried VR several times and regardless of my buddy trying to convert me, it will never happen! September 7, 20232 yr Moderator I hated VR. I had the Oculus Rift 2, and it was so dark and low resolution it put me off. That being said, things have certainly moved on since then, so worth a revisit
September 7, 20232 yr I don't fly outside of VR, but I experienced a full multimonitor cockpit back in the day in DC9, 747 and 757 level D sims. Even when we couldn't get a tech to run the motion component, just sitting still without motion you felt like you were flying because all the visual references indicated you were. That would actually be better today -- the graphics they were running back in the late 90s didn't come close to what MSFS can do. A properly set-up multimonitor cockpit that was fully enclosed like this one would be far superior to VR. It would also cost enough that I could probably just buy a used Cessna for the same money. I'm toying with upgrading from my Reverb G2 to a Pimax, and even if you count both headsets, it's still a lot less than a full cockpit buildout. September 7, 20232 yr I saw this and posted a "thank you" to the original poster to say how impressive I thought it was and how it was the first time I could see the attraction of flying a tube and emulating all the systems and actions etc. And I do think it's amazing. But to me, it's sorta got nothing to do with a flight sim. It's a 737 simulator (or whatever tube that is, that shows you how much I'm aware of cockpit niceties!) You couldn't sit in a rig like that and comfortably fly a Cessna, or an F15, or a heli, or whatever. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it at all - I'd love to have a setup like that in its own room somewhere, but even though I can see it would definitely make me want to learn how to do stuff properly, I'd actually feel hugely limited by it. I'd still want my existing, "normal" desktop setup and I'd probably spend more time on that than in the cockpit. It's great that such setups are out there, and I love to see them on youtube and the like, but I'm happy to admire from a distance. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

It's a 737 simulator I feel the same. a setup like this is probably the ultimate experience when you are only interested in a specific aircraft type. For me, that would be too limiting; I like to fly whatever is my fancy at the moment. A good monitor & TrackIR (or VR) and generic controllers work much better in that situation. I do like controllers to roughly mimic the category of aircraft I am flying though, so a different throttle quadrant setup for for props and jets. I am not bothered by using a yoke for stick aircraft (except heli's) though as long as the hardware is accurate and solid. September 7, 20232 yr Nah the autothrottle doesn't even move by itself. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

September 7, 20232 yr Hi, I see you found my baby, I love every minute I get to spend flying. I tried VR, don't like the headset after an hour or so, it feels like it weighs a ton and the sweat on my forehead makes me break out. I also don't have the ability to reach out and throw switches, dials and what not. If I want to fly a desk, I can fly whatever aircraft I like. I can even sit in the sim and look over my hardware to the monitors flight deck. But that very rarely happens. The only thing with the camera is the lens, it's a wide angle lens from Rokinon, not very good. In that above video I did drift off the centerline big time. I ran my first night flight in 2020, what a view! Thanks everybody!
