Fenix block 2 delayed [31 October 2023]

Featured Replies

Mostly a model and texture major overhaul with engine revisions and a new engine model etc; so it should be a pretty seamless update  for the end user and will most likely run well.

From what I’ve heard it’s much more deeper than that? Or am I misinformed?

The recent version 2 block 1 had more system coding changes.   From what I read, this is block 2, which is more of a model and texture overhaul re-write with engine revisions and a new engine model.  I am sure the engine coding has a lot of code to it though.

The external engine model alone will be a huge source of bugs, game-breaking ones among them. Also they did a lot of other smaller and bigger changes, like the tyre compression, dirt accumulation on the external model, manual intersections in the perf calculator and what else I forgot. I‘d say it‘s the biggest update yet.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I think they are revising the efb too?  The Block 1 had alot of major changes.

But the problems with the autopilot and turbulence and remaining problems like landings and FBW were already solved in the previous patch or are they still the same as before?

Stop moaning about unnecessary things! Let's concentrate on dirt tire compression.

It may be quite important to note that visual artists don't work on system stuff.

Which is why when we do previews and show one aspect of the airplane, it doesn't mean we haven't done other stuff.

It's right in the very post - we will do a systems deep dive next.

Is WX radar in the pipeline?

I have a feeling we won't see this from PMDG/Fenix until MSFS2024. They seem really intent on "getting it right" and not settling for unrealistic returns. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if I recall, RSR said he didn't want to deal with support tickets from a WXR that didn't function like the real thing.

Fingers crossed Asobo actually has been working on weather for 2024 and we can finally have our cake and eat it too.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.

To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I wonder  he RSR can sleep at night knowing that none of circuitbreaker in his 737 works? This is not right and extremely unrealitsic! LOL But hey there are always compromises when they convenient for one's ego! Right? LOL

Haha! I guess he views it as "It's better to have things not simulated versus things incorrectly simulated" and that's I guess a fair stance. In any case, if Fenix hasn't worked on WXR yet I don't see them starting on it with MSFS 2024 (and the new weather enhancements) less than a year away. 😥 Obviously baseless speculation as I have never sat in on one of their internal dev meetings, but why spend money on something that Asobo will implement in a few months for you?

Maybe our back and forth is amusing enough for Aamir to chime in with an answer, though 😂

Even the statement that Asobo will provide what the Devs are asking for the WX interface in 2024 is speculation and we have no idea whether that will be again one of those things that the insane Fenix crew will build from scratch, fully custom and running independently.
